Problem opening recurring meetings after SP2 installation for Exchange 2007
- Hello everybody,
recently we have installed SP2 for our Exchange 2007 server,
since then every user in the domain cannot open his Recurring meetings in his calender.
infact, the user can arrange new recurring meeting but when he trys to open it, he gets an error message.
" Cannot open this item. the operation failed"
*when i put the user in the Exchange Administrator security group he has no problem! but ofcourse it isnt the solution.
is it possible that the regular mailbox role changed / corrupted after the xch sp2 installation?
What can we do?

- Scott,
To fix this, turn diagnostic logging for "Message Access" back down to "Lowest" you will then need to dismount and mount the stores on this server.
From the Exchange Management Shell,
set-eventloglevel -id "MSExchangeIS\9000 Private\Message Access" -level lowest
This should resolve your problem, we do not have more information on this at this time,

- Have you tried to move e.g. one user who have the problem to different database? I assume your event logs are not saying anything?

Petri - Is this on new recurring meetings or does it happen for older ones as well? Check to make sure any 3rd party software is updated on your server to be SP2 compliant. If it's only on newer e-mails, it's probably AV messing with the new incoming messages.
MVP | MCSE:M | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator | MCTS: OCS + Voice Specialization | http://www.shudnow.net - Have at least one user try launching the OL with /cleanfreebusy switch. also check for relevant permission calendar.
It would not be a bad idea to run EXBPA on Exchange server just to make sure everything is in place
Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3| Hi,
Would you please let me know whether the issue occurs when open recurring meeting by using both Outlook and OWA? If the issue only occurs when open recurring meeting by using Outlook, please ensure the latest update for Outlook has been installed.

- We are having the same problem after the SP2 upgrade. I have tried numerous outlook switches with no luck. Our admins have no problem opening up the appointments just the normal users.
Any suggestions would be great.

Scott McNamee - If you open the meeting in OWA it works fine. All of our machines are patched up to the latest updates.

Scott McNamee - Scott;
When a user double clicks on the appointment, do they get prompted to “open this occurrence” or “Open the series”?
Karl
- They get the following error "Cannot open this item. The operation failed". If they go to OWA it works fine, if I add them to the Admins group it work, if they use any other view besides the Day/Week/Month view they are able to open the appointment and edit it with no problem.
It is also happening when they try to create a new email and choose "Insert Item" and try to insert and email as the attachment. The users get "The operation failed" error but, if I am them to the admins group it works fine. We did not have any issues until installing SP2 last week.
Thanks,
Scott
Scott McNamee - Scott;
Do you have more than 1 mailbox database?
If so, move one of the problem mailboxes to another database, and have them try again?

I experienced the same issue and after changing the logging level as detailed by Jack and then restarting the Exchange Information Store service, the issue went away.
Thank you very much!!- Again we had the exact issue described al recurring meeting where failing after installing SP2, this fixed the issue, Thankyou.
Still have an issue with failure messages to Windows mobile devices after a meeting is moved. maybe this will reslove now this main issue has been resolved.
