    I have successfully installed SP2 on the HUB and CAS servers, but I am unable to installed SP2 on the Clustered mailbox servers.

    When trying to install SP2 on the passive node, The error I get is:

    Mailbox Role Checks......................................................FAILED
    Before Setup can continue, all clustered managed services owned by this node need to be taken offline or preferably moved to another node in the cluster.

    I have already moved all cluster managed service to the other node but I still get this error.

    I tried moving the clustered managed services back to this node, but then I get the same error on the other node.

    What do you get if you do a Get-ClusteredMailboxServerStatus ?
    And similar Test-ReplicationHealth ?

    And also, did you do a command line install, not the GUI?
    The right syntax is Setup.com /mode:upgrade

    Cluster Managed Resources Need to be Moved or Taken Offline

    Is there any error event in the application log?

    Please also check the installation log for related error info

    Did you have installed CMS on the active node?

    This is what I get from Get-ClusteredMailboxServerStatus

    Identity                                                                         :nemesis
    ClusteredMailboxServerName                                         :NEMESIS.hookemup.local
    State                                                                            :Online
    OperationalMachines                                                      :{HERMES <Active, Quorum Owner>, HADES}
    FailResources                                                                :{}
    OperationalReplaciationHostNames                                  :{hermes, hades}
    FailedReplicationHostNames                                            :{}
    InUseReplicationHostNames                                            :{hermes, hades}
    IsVaild                                                                          :True
    ObjectState                                                                   :Unchanged

    Hermes is the active node.  I am running the command          setup /m:upgrade on hades (passive node) and I get this error

    Mailbox Role Checks......................................................FAILED
    Before Setup can continue, all clustered managed services owned by this node need to be taken offline or preferably moved to another node in the cluster.

    I try to run   Move-ClusteredMailboxServer -identity nemesis -targetmachine hermes and it tells me hermes is currently hosting clustered mailbox, so I have verifed that hades is the passive node.

    I get no errors in the event application log

    Whitefence, make sure to follow the TechNet article, "How to Upgrade a Clustered Mailbox Server in a CCR Environment to Exchange 2007 SP1 or SP2" (article bb676320)

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676320.aspx

    It sounds like the passive node has one or more resources running on it. To confirm, you can run the following at a command (or EMS) prompt on one of your mailbox server nodes: "cluster res". This will return all the cluster resources, show the status, and show the node that owns the resource. You can also view this information in the Cluster Manager console.

    I am experiencing exactly the same problem and also have verified that cluster resources are hosted on a single node. As fishy as it sounds, I tried shifting the cluster and trying on the newly passive node and got the same results. The only thing I haven't tried yet is taking exchange resources down entirely... which if all else fails I will try tonight during an outage window. Just trying to save some time by getting the passive node done first... :-)

    Hi

    is it possible to move the  PBX-ClusterGroup-hades Group to the HERMES Node? Thats the only ressource residing on HADES, which is in your case the passive Node, isn't it? If possible, try to rerun the the upgrade on the passive Node from Command-Line: Setup /m:upgrade

    Good luck!

    Call me crazy but I did a reboot of the passive node, turned off BeRemote and snapmanager (netapp) services and tried again - worked!!! :-). No idea why it worked but make sure you are trying a reboot of the passive node - perhaps some resources get locked in as owned by the passive node after a failover and it finally gets release by a reboot...?

    Using these instructions ->  http://www.howexchangeworks.com/2009/08/upgrading-exchange-2007-ccr-to-sp2.html

    Environment:

    2 Mailstore servers in CCR configuration
    1 HUB/CAS
    1 Edge
    1 AD

    HUB/CAS and EDGE Upgraded secessfully.

    On Mailstore servers in CCR configuration

    First ran SP2 on the passive node in the cluster with setup /m:upgrade secessfull,  But setup /UpgradeCMS Failed with following Error:
