Yesterday we started with the preperations for installing Exchange 2007 SP2. First thing is to run Setup /Prepareschema and /PrepareAD.
We first started with setup /prepareschema. This command was run succesfully. Only the progress is holding on 80 percent for the last 14 hours. We are unable to find any error in the DC/GC servers or the server we're running the setup from.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem.

All our servers run with Win2003 64bit Enterprise Edition SP2.

My experiences of upgrade from Exchange Server 2007 SP1 rollup9 to Exchange Server 2007 SP2,
when multiple domain controllers and witch have a global catalog.

    ex)

      Office-1   2set of WS2003R2 SP2 x86 ADDC+GC,  WS2008 SP2 x64 + Exch2007 SP1 RU9
      Office-2,3,4   WS2003R2 SP2 x86 ADDC+GC
      DR-Site    WS2003R2 SP2 x86 ADDC+GC(FSMO),  WS2008 SP2 x64 + Exch2007 SP1 RU9

This situation, I recommend use /DomainController  option.

    > setup.com /PrepareAD  /DomainContoller:draddc.domain.local

If not use /DomainController option then Exchange Setup is use Any Writeable Domain Controller.
Check the c:/ExchangeSetupLogs  log file, then find a setup used what a domain controller is changed step by step.

    So,

    > setup.com /PrepareAD

    and check log file, then

1st step is used domain controller office1addc.domain.local
2nd step is used  domain controller office2addc.comain.local
    ...

This case, setup is need a very long time because waiting AD infomation replication for finish setup process.

This is same /PrepareSchema and /PrepareDomain process, I think.
I recommend /DomainController option to select a domain controller of FSMO your self.

Thanks Shimshoft!!! The commandline option /domaincontroller solved our problem. PrepareSchema and PrepareAD was ready after 20 minutes.

Have you verified there is no replication issues between your DC's and GC's?

also try running the /prepareschema directly on schemamaster server

It should also be noted, that if you prefer, you can just run /PrepareAD and this will automatically run the /Prepareschema switch automatically.

Ensure that the account is a member of the schema admins and the enterprise admins and that you are running this from within the same site as the schema master.
