Recipient Update Service Error when installing Exchange 2007 SP2

I have a single Windows 2003 R2 server running Exchnage 2007 SP1. When I run the SP2 setup I get the error
Cannot find Recipient Update Service responsible for the domain.
Our Exchange 2003 server was removed years ago.

Is this a standard error, or something that needs to be addressed berore installing SP2?

Hi,
I have started another post about my problems of not being able to complete the Exchange 2007 installation. However, comparing the error message I get, which is Active Directory server is not available. Error message: A local error occured with other similar message in the forum, I noticed that there are two spaces in the message, where I should see my server name. For historic reasons, the AD server name is exchange-admin.exchange-admin.cegepsherbrooke.qc.ca , might this be too long a name for the installation process?

Two users that cannot see their Calendar in OWA after three days after SP2 install- can see calendar items in Outlook

Good Afternoon,
We updated Exchange 2007 to SP2 3 days ago. Today we had two users that could not access their Calendar in Outlook Web Access. When they click on the Calendar they get the message "This item is no longer available..."
It could be a coincedence, but seems odd. When they view their calendar via Outlook they see their items and there is no error message.

Error installing Exchange 2007 SP2 (object already exists)

I keep running into this error when attempting to install SP2, it is a fatal error which stops the install with relatively little information to go on. I've searched for many hours now trying to find someone reporting the same problem, but only found one similar post (that was left unanswered).

Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 - Unable to remove product with code ... (ASDat.msi)

I have searched all over, but I haven't been able to find similar error anywhere.
We have 3 separate server (Essential Business Server). On Exchange server and Management server Service Pack 2 installed without problem, but on security server, this problem appeared (three steps before end - at "Edge Transport Role"):

Setup wants access to ASDat.msi, which exist at location: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\agents\Hygiene\", but it appears, that it's not the right one.

BTW, I run setup as administrator.

In this state it appears, that everything still works.

Don't know if it's related, but two updates always fail to install:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB959209) x64
- Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x64 (KB963707)

Can you help me solve this problem? What should I look at?

Upgrading to 2007 SP2.. Advice

I am prepping to update our ex2007 server from SP1 to SP2. I have been reading anything/everything I can find about this subject. Ideally I am planning to move to Ex2010 by mid-Dec possible early Jan. As I have read this is one of those requirements from MS to upgrade/migrate.

This is my 2nd day at my new job. This is a huge task since I am as my title suggests a Exchange newb. As I inherted the Network and getting my barrings set. I'm trying to figure this out.

This is my setup

Pri DC:
2003 Server SP2
Enterprise Edition

Sec DC:
2003 Server 64-bit SP2
Standard Edition

Exchange 2007 SP1 R9
2003 Server 64-bit SP2
Standard Edition

This is the part I get a little confused on. We have no CCR configuration. It goes like this:

1 Mailbox
1 HUB
1 CAS
1 UM

Will the setup of SP2 upgrade each one of those during the course of the setup or this something that I am suppose to do?

From the MS technet site it lists

Extend the schema (Part of the domain/schema admins group)
Prep AD (see above)
Install Windows Installer 4.5 (downloaded and ready)
Uninstall interm updates (no interm updates to uninstall)

Back to reading. Oh so much reading to do.

Exchange 2007 Update Rollup 1 for SP2 installation failures

This was released last night (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=971534). I have tried it on two x64 Windows Server 2008 SP2 machines which only have the Management Tools installed. In both cases installation failed and rolled back.

Here is where it stops in patch-config.log.

Error patching config file: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\PopImap\Microsoft.Exchange.Imap4.exe.config'.

Then the log stops.

Obviously these machines don't have a ClientAccess folder or IMAP4 installed, but this has not stopped Update Rollups before.

I'm not willing to try it on the Exchange Servers themselves.

ROLLUPS FOR EXCHANGE 2007

I have a vanilla install of Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 and all the latest hotfixes/updates setup as a failover cluster.

I am trying to install Exchange Server 2007 SP2 as a SCC installation.

Validation Checks do not show any issues and allows me to continue installation.

However, when the installation is 90% done, the system fails when trying to start the MsExchangeTransportLogs service and the installation ends.

I receive a MSEXCHANGESETUP event id 1002 error reading...

Service 'MSExchangeTransportLogSearch' failed to reach status 'Running' on this server.

I have increased the startup timeout to 120000 with no change.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cannot Apply Exchange 2007 SP2 to MBX servers in Child Domain

I've got what I hope to be a pretty easy problem to resolve.

So, I have an empty root design with 1 child domain - server 2003 native AD. I have an Exchange 2007 2 node Windows 2008 SCC installed in an Exchange 2003 ORG in this child domain. I remember during the setup of the SCC having to prepare the AD from the root domain and also in the child domain. There are no users in the root domain though.

When I run setp /m:upgrade I get the following:

Slow Local Email Delivery - Exchange 2003 Enterprise Sp2

Exchange Server SP2 Upgrade from SP1 Causes Outlook 2007 password prompt

I recently upgraded our Exchange 2007 SP1 servers to Exchange 2007 SP2. Since the upgrade I have had complaints from multiple users that Outlook will prompt them for a user name and password showing the exchange server's name in the password box. The box will not accept their credentials. However, the email message still sends. outlook then continues to show that a password is required in the bottom left corner of the screen on the status bar for Outlook. If the user exits Outlook and restarts the program, the problem goes away. Additionally I have had another user who tried to reply to an email message and when he went to send it he was prompted for the user name and password for his recipient's mail server. If he tried to send the same message to this recipent using a new message instead of a reply, he did not get the password prompt.
Neither of these issues existed prior to the SP2 Exchange upgrade.

Hi,
I currently have Exchange 2003 running on Windows 2003. I just installed a Windows 2008 Server (Enterprise, 64 bits, not R2) and it joined the same domain as the Windows 2003 server. I want to do an initial Exchange 2007 server installation.

On the new server I log in using the 2003 server's name and administrator account, then try to install Exchange Server 2007 SP2 (64 bits). I get this error (that I am translating from French):

Active Directory 0x8000FFFF: when looking up for domain controllers: could not open a session (unknown user name or incorrect password).

Problem with First Name & Last Name

i have Microsoft exchange server 2003

the problem is that one of my client is using OWA by web browser IE 8. He is taking access by web browser OWA properly.
but when he recieve any email from another person inside the exchange id or outside the exchange id so themail message first and last name shows of the user just recieve the name of himself.

my Client is Director Finance
when director finance open mail box by OWA its fine but when i send a email message to my Director Finance so the message should shows my name and my designation and my last name. but its not hapenning. the first and last name shows of the Director Finance and when i open the email message so then it shows correct email address of sender. but the sender name does not shows. wats prb it is please help me soon..

OWA Problem after RU 9

Exchange SP2 install fails on Win 2K3

The Schema was successfully extended, and /PrepareAD along with /PrepareDomain were run as well. No apparent issues there. This was done days ago. I'm now attempting to finish upgrading a 2+1 Exchange 2007 SCC cluster. Systems are Physical boxes - not VM's. Node 1 of the 3 node cluster will not upgrade successfully. The other two nodes have been successfully upgraded. They are running Windows 2003 SP2, and all DC's / GC's are Windows 2003 SP2 (no W2K8). The version of Exchange currently installed on Node 1 (IE the is problematic node) is Exchange 2007 SP1 RU9.

The upgrade is reporting that it is failing because it can not contact the Remote Registry Service. I have stopped all AV Services, the System Center Operations Service and then stopped and restarted the Remote Registry service, and then attempted to perform the upgrade. I have also verified that the remote registry service is available from other nodes by opening Regedit on another machine and successfully remotely connecting.

The detailed log (provided below) indicates that not only can it not connect to the registry, but it also can't find the Exchange computer account in AD. I connected to AD (specifically the GC that the detailed logs states Exchange is using), and confirmed that the computer account is in fact there. So that makes no sense..

I have tried uninstalling SP1 RU9 first, rebooting, and then going about installing SP2. After much troubleshooting I have even re-installed SP1 RU9 and then attempted to install SP2 - no luck. Lastly, I updated ExBPA and opened the BPA log from the setup, and it didn't reveal anything more than what the below detailed log shows. So that was of no help either. Any insight or help anyone can provide would be much appreciated! I've called PSS but that hasn't gotten me anywhere yet.

Hi All,

I'd like to upgrade my existing Exchange Server 2007 Std. SP1 + RU 3 into the latest Service Pack 2, but I'm confused and not sure if it can bring more benefits than harm :-(

when i click on the Windows update, It only shows:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x64
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Rollup Update 9

Should I go ahead with the SP2 directly after the .NET Framework install ?

I also and always heard that there will be something broken after applying the patch to Microsoft Exchange Server, Can anyone share your experience here please of what to do after the SP2 install ? [I'm pretty sure that there is something won't work as expected :-|]

and of course if the upgrade is failed, I'll redeploy this server backup from Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5.

Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP2

We just attempted to install Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP2. The server is running the Client Access Role and Hub Transport Role with SP1 and Rollup 9. When running the upgrade tp SP2 the schema updates work, the Hub Transport Role updates correctly, but when it gets to Client Access role it appears to get about half way through then errors out with the below error.

Error:

An error occurred. The error code was 3221685950. The message was The remote procedure call failed..

There is an event in the application event log, event 1002. The event has the exact same wording as the setup application gives.

I did some searching, but of course google, bing, and the MS premeir site gives nothing to go on.

We tried rebooting the server and rerunning the service pack 2, but it gives the same result.

Auto Accept Agent Not replying

Hi

I have installed AAA on one Exchange box and it work perfect. When I installed it to one of my other exchange boxes on the same domain, but at a different site I don't get the Auto Accept reply from the resource mailbox as I should. I have logged onto the mailbox and can see the meeting requests in the inbox and the resource calendar is booked for the specific time period.

I did the installation exactly the same as on the box that works and used the same configuration, only names of the resource mailbox and server are different

Hi Folks,

I read quite a nuber of topics re this isssue, but I'm still confused :-(

Present situation:

1. W2003 SP2 as DC (PDC) with Exchange 2003 installed on it

Proposed install:

1. Add W2008 R2 as a member server in existing W2003 domain
2. Install Exch 2007 SP2 on that memebr server and migrate exisiting Ech2003 SP 2 from PDC.
3. Decommission and uninstall Exch 2003 from DC (PDC)
4. Add another W2008 R2 server as DC and migrate existing W2003 SP2 AD to it.
5. Decommission existing W2003 DC, W2008 R2 will become DC (PDC)

Is this posssible combination to run?

Will Exch 2007 SP2 live happily ever after with W2008 R2 as main DC or not?

Or it is just beter to migrate straight to Exch 2010 on W2008 R2 without messing with Exch 2007 at all (that means buying a new licenses $$$$$ $#&&@#$^#^).

I am wondering how to upgrade ActiveSync on this server. It is currently running SBS2003 SP2. It seems that it is currently only supporting ActiveSync Protocols 1.0 and 2.0, but need it to support 2.5 or 12. I could not find these numbers anywhere and I am not since it is running SBS2003 SP2 if that includes SP2 for Exchange Server. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Are there easy to follow instructions of what is required to upgrad from Exchange 2007 sp1 to sp2? My environment is Windows 2008 SP2 standard. Docs i've read go from making changes to active directory to just install the SP2 using the gui and all comes out fine - been down this road before.

i know that i can't run upgrade any server 2007 sp1 components to exchange 2007 sp2 on a 2008R2 machine, so no exchange machines have been upgraded to R2. however, i thought that it was supposed to be possible to upgrade the DCs to 2008 R2 and support SP2 running on server 2008. i am trying to do prepareschema and preparead on my DC that is running 2008 R2. setup fails during the organizational check saying that exchange SP2 setup can not run because it's on 2008 R2.

is this a setup bug? if not, how am i supposed to update the schema so i can run exchange SP2 on my exchange machines?

Exchange Management Shell problem E2K10

I installed Exchange 2010 on Server 2008 R2 Std on 2 VMs hosted on Hyper-V 2008. I relaized I need to be running enterprise to use DAGs. I did an experiment on 3rd VM to see if I could upgrade a server from 2008 R2 STD to 2008 R2 ENT. All went well so I proceded to upgrade one of my E2K10 server to 2008 R2 Enterprise. That worked fine so I moved mailboxes from my primary server to the newly upgraded E2K10/W2K8 R2 ENT server to enable me to perform an upgrade of my primary E2K10 server to W2K8 R2 ENT. The upgrade to W2K8 R2 ENT completed sucessfully but now I get the following Exchange Management Shell error. It appears I've lost a schema somewhere along the upgrade path.

Please can you advise what could be causing the removal of the headers. This was working using Exchange 2007 SP1 rollup 9, now we have upgraded to Exchange 2007 SP2.?
If we move the mailbox to Exchange 2003 it works, but when we move it back to 2007, it removes the headers.

I recently installed Exchange 2007 Servers (with SP2) on Windows Server 2008 x64 (with SP2) in my Exchange test lab. After installing the Exchange servers, I ran Exchange BPA 2.8 which found the following critical errors:
Active Directory: The Exchange schema extensions are from an unknown version. Schema version detected is 11116
Domain: AD Domain has an unrecognized Exchange signature. Current DomainPrep version: 11221
Explanation given was that an eval copy of the software was used to make these changes and that an RTM version should be used instead.
I then went to our volume licensing site and downloaded what I think is the RTM version of Exchange 2007 SP1 and reran setup /ps,
setup /AD and setup /pd however the values do not change and I keep getting the errors when running BPA.

Is it okay to manually modify these values using adsiedit?

How exactly can I tell which version of Exchange Server 2007 I am running? I thought I had upgraded to SP 1 when I installed Excahnge Server 2007 last fall. When I run Microsoft Update from 2/10/09 on I do not get Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2007 SP 1 nor do I get Exchange Server 2007 SP 1 as an option to download and install.

OK. So you have Exchange 2007 SP1 running on Windows 2008 Server (SP1).

How do you back up the system state?

I have the OS and Exchange binaries on C:, the DBs on E: and the logs on F:

System State backup should only backup C: - which would avoid it attempting to backup the DBs, right?

This should do the trick?

There should be no problem with running Exchange services, etc.?

I finaly upgraded my cluster but now I have a big problem. When I move the cluster from a node to other node there are some databases can't be mounted. And when I checked in the Exchange Manager I have all my storage groups suspended and I can't bring them healthy.

Hello everybody,
recently we have installed SP2 for our Exchange 2007 server,
since then every user in the domain cannot open his Recurring meetings in his calender.
infact, the user can arrange new recurring meeting but when he trys to open it, he gets an error message.
" Cannot open this item. the operation failed"
*when i put the user in the Exchange Administrator security group he has no problem! but ofcourse it isnt the solution.
is it possible that the regular mailbox role changed / corrupted after the xch sp2 installation?

What can we do?

Hi,

I can't upgrade my cluster CCR exchange 2007 to sp2 .I've already upgraded my CAS and HUB servers with no problem. But not on my MAILBOX server...

My servers are on win2k8 (64bits) and exchange 2k7 (64bits) when I started the command setup /m:upgrade on the passive node of my cluster I have an error.

[PS] C:\install\ex7sp2>setup /m:upgrade

Preparing Exchange Server
Setup exchange installation has encountered an error

Can someone help me?

Exchange 2007 Backup

Hi,

I am facing problem Exchange 2007 with sp2 when i am taking backup that time get Error:

Application will not be able for recovery from this backup.Consistency check fail for component microsoft Exchange Server\ Microsoft Information Store \exmailbox (instance 778703cf-27a0-45e3-8534-ee2fa1889242:3). Contect the apllication vender for help and resloving.

If anyone have idea plz reply.

Getting Cold feet with my upgrade to E2K7 SP2

I have read and read and read and I have checked all the registries of my E2K7 SP1 servers to insure no watermarks, no action keys and that the Configuredversion and unpackedversion are the same.

As I said I have read and read and read the release notes and I want to insure that I DO NOT have to deinstall any SP1 rus before installing E2K7 SP2??????

Please Please and Please again do I have to deinstall any E2K7 SP1 rollups?

Current environment co-existence with E2K3 SP2. I have built five E2K7 SP1/W2K8 SP1 servers and before I start moving mailboxes, I am going to upgrade them to: E2K7 SP2 and W2K8 SP2.

I have read a number of articles for E2K7 SP2 prerequisites but just need clarification on the following:

(1) Prerequisite: /prepareAD - it says per domain. I have a root and child domain topology so I believe I only run this once from the root domain level ?

(2) powershell 2.0 - it appears that it works better with E2K7 SP2 but will E2K7 SP2 install powershell 2.0 or do I need to install powershell 2.0 separately?

(3) or does W2K8 SP2 have powershell 2.0.
