Proposed Simplifying calendar scheduling process for a pool of people

    Hi all,

First off, I originally asked this question in the general discussion forum but it doesn't appear there is a native Exchange feature that does this.  Hopefully someone can answer if any 3rd party extensions can support this.

We are trying to figure out how to make it easy to schedule time with subject matter experts.  As an example, let's say I need to set up a meeting to talk about Exchange.  I have three people on my team who are capable of supporting Exchange, so I'd like to have a single calendar or tool someone can go to in order to book a meeting with one of these three people.  If any one of them is available during the particular time slot then they could be booked.  If all three are booked then the calendar would reflect that.

It is a seemingly simple situation but it isn't obvious if Exchange can actually do anything like this.  The basic concept of a group calendar seems to fall down here as I don't want to book a single meeting that then shows up on the three people's calendars.  I'm basically looking for a way to easily schedule time with a pool of people (or resources if you want to think of it that way).  The idea is to make it simple for those looking to schedule time.  They don't care that there is one, two, or twenty people in the "resource pool".  They just want to know if someone is available to talk at a particular time without having to view 20 calendars...

    Thank you!

    Hi,

We have made a solution to this problem for one of our customers.

The situation's been solved in the following way (If I apply it on your problem):

A shared user was created as a "virtual user mailbox". A user which is created just for purpose to own shared calendars. The permission are given to these three "Exchange developers" which can read/write to the the calendar of the "virtual user".

Then we used this tool to retriewe the items from the Micrsoft Exchange via the SQL interface.

Then you can see  from each meeting created in the "virtuals user" calendar startdate-enddate of each scheduled meeting. The tool also offers to create, insert and update the Appointment entries in a exchange mailbox.
