AnswerExchange 2007 and Blackberry Internet Service

Forgive me for stealing someone elses post on msexchangeteam.com, but i have the same problem, and it looks like it wasn't answered there.

    Code Block

Greets.  I have single box Exch 2007 setup.  Now the following items don't work:  anything that used to access Exch server via OWA, i.e. blackberry internet service (t-mobile BB's), Chattermail, Treo's etc.  I believe it's because these services all accessed mailboxes with  https:\\mail.server.com\exchange\username  which doesn't seem to work now.  Is there some way to make this work on single Exch server box?

    http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/02/07/434523.aspx

Has the /username feature of exchange been replaced by the new "Open others mailbox" dropdown?  What information do I need to provide to the Blackberry Internet Service (www.blackberry.com/go/vzw) so that it can connect to my exchange 2007 server?  I realize a Blackberry Enterprise Server is the best option in almost all cases, but this was a usefull feature and i'm not convinced its just gone away.

     Answer

BIS DOES support Exchange 2007.  See the link or search the title:

Integrate a Microsoft Outlook Web Access email account with a BlackBerry Internet Service account

    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03133

    Environment

    • BlackBerry® Internet Service 1.8 and 2.x
    • Microsoft® Exchange
    • Microsoft® Outlook® Web Access 2007 and earlier

    Enjoy.

    Great!

It looks like they are slow to update all of their documentation, but based on your article, I'd agree it seems they now support Exchange 2007

They do support BIS for Exchange Server 2007, BUT, BIS will not work with exchange server 2007 when the IIS is configured for secure SSL transfers (i.e. https vs http).  The blackberry log in cant seem to penetrate the Secure Socket Layer protocols to connect and sign in.

That link you provided above does not help solve a connected issue here of bypassing or negotiating SSL exposed Exchange Servers.

I have used BIS and SSL before.  Are you using a public trusted certificate?

A few of us in our company are having the same problem as well, and most of us have moved to other phone models to integrate with our exchange server after it was upgraded. IT will not alllow forwarding, nor will they allow IMAP/POP access.

Our certificates for https://mail.domain.com are publically trusted as far as I know, no warnings come up when accessing mail from IE or firefox....

Here are our settings as taken from OWA's about page:

Outlook Web Access host address: https://mail.XXX.com/owa
    Outlook Web Access version: 8.1.263.0
Outlook Web Access host name: mail.XXX.com

If an exchange workaround exists, can someone please post it here?

Our company has hit this exact snap with Exch 2007 SP2.  Before we upgraded to SP2, SP1 was functioning fine with BIS.  Now after the update, all BB's using BIS are not working.  Our Treo's and iPhone's are working fine and we're hoping that our company will start utilizing direct push phones more now.

    Hello ,

Here we are in the company with access problem with 02 BB, with Exchange 2003 worked, but after migrating to 2007 stopped working and never used the BES.

    How does BIS?

Is there any way but by forwarding the email to the account of the BB?

    Thanks

Luiz, if you dont want to use BES, or BIS, you can create contacts for your Blackberry users in AD.  Have the user's account forward to this contact, and put blackberryemailaddress@blackberry.net as the external email address.  Then hide the contact from the GAL if you'd like.

    Hi Mike

Could you please explain ,how to achived in brief if possible ,what you are talking about ,(forwording email to blackberryemailaddress@blackberry.net as the external email addres)

If you want as brief as possible, I'd say read the instructions I already supplied.  Otherwise I would need to you explain what you do not understand so that I can further elaborate.

Blackberry provides free email accounts for anyone who has a blackberry device.  When setting up the phone you are prompted to create one.  Otherwise you can re-run email setup from the phone.

    Hello,

I'm having some doubts regarding the setup and release of Exchange 2007 and ISA Server 2006 to use the Blackberry handsets.

In the BlackBerry has a link to configure the BlackBerry to make music using the Exchange account, but when trying to make the settings error. Find this tutorial (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03133 ) for configuration, but I still can not configure and reports me the message that can not reach my exchange server.

Does anyone have any idea or tip to get set up correctly?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Problem solved. It was not with Exchange or with the BlackBerry. Despite my releases in the ISA Server for IMAP and POP3 Server, I had to create a rule releasing protocols POP3S IMAPS Server and Server.

I checked this by monitoring the ISA Server all the requests that came to my link and from there I started going through filters, and found that they had denied requests for protocols that have been released.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

    Hi Mike,

Please i have a litttle problem creating my users  exchange mail account on the blackberry phone using BIS. I have followed the steps listed in the article
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03133

But i get an error message that :An error occured during email account validation, if it persists contact your system administrator"

We have a typical exchange 2007 SP1 installation on a windows server 2008 SE box. The certificate in use is not a publicly trusted one has i obtained it from our internal CA.

    Please any suggestions?

I really can't troubleshoot the issues thrown by blackberry while trying to create a blackberry account.  This is something you may want to contact them on, or start a new thread in the 3rd party apps forum.
