How to make contacts not appearing in Exchange GAL?
Hi,
I'm struggling with an apparently simple problem, and i do not know how to get out of it.
I need to publish email addresses of three external companies to my exchange users.
In the AD domain I have a Contacts OU where I have three sub-OUs, one for each company.
Under each sub.OU i have the related contacts with their email address.
I do not want contacts appear in the GAL, because this creates confusion to users.
I would like that in the GAL i can only see my domain users, and that to access contacts in CompanyA usesrs have to choose the corresponding address list in the address selection dialog.
I tried many things, also building a second GAL with only my domain users: i can build it, but I cannot make so that Outlook users can see the new GAL and not the Default GAL.The other thing that seems "taboo" is the order in wich columns are displayed in the Outlook Address selection dialog: how can this order be changed?

How to make sure that Outlook clients access the correct global address list if there is more than one global address list

According to the article, the Outlook displays the global address list that meets the following criteria:
The user has permissions to access this global address list.
The user is a member of this global address list.
This global address list is the largest of all of the other global address lists.
Therefore, for your scenario, I recommend that you delete the Default Global Address List or deny the authenticated users to access the default Global address list if you have Exchange 2007.
In addition, you need to create a new Offline Address Book to generate OAB files based on the new Global Address List and configure the users to download the new Offline Address Book.

- There is no way to change the columns in the Outlook Address book. This is something people have been complaining about for years to no effect so far.
There's basically nothing you can do to segregate the full GAL, as the others have told you. The drop-down address lists are all very well but I find most users don't use them. A workaround a lot of organisations use is to add extra information to the display name - perhaps in your case you could put "(company)" after the person's name. As long as you have the company attribute already populated it wouldn't be difficult to write a script which updates the display name...
