- That's correct. The Edge Transport Server should not be a member of the domain, and needs to be installed on a dedicated server for isolation of the domain, security etc.

Edge server will be installed on its own server. Rest of them (Mail box, Client access and Hub Transport) can go on one server. These roles are always installed on member servers where as edge has to go on a stand alone machine.

- Looks like you are on the track. just make sure that you get the back up of the critical data (if possible) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998634.aspx
Also for the recovery you can have a look into this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998656.aspx
Raj - I would go with Rename standby to Hub1 , run the setup /m:recover server command on Hub1.
Configuration information for Exchange 2007 is held in Active Directory, so as long as the server is named the same, when running the recoverserver switch (and it is all one word there), it should reconfigure any configuration information held in AD.
Also note that because this is just a Hub server, it should also be possible, without too much effort, to simply install a new Hub Transport server. There should be none (or very minimal) data loss as the mail is transient as it passes through the Hub Transport server.
Shaun - Thanks for the reply I have one more question that might also help I am quite confused humm... Which exchange 2007 component must be installed on its own server?is it Edge server or Transport ?
Only HUB transport as you are trying to replace the HUB server and as soon as you select HUB , edge server option will grey out.
