Outlook username password pop up EBS 2008
- Hi,
We have EBS 2008 installed and it is in production envoirment, now we have a problem with our outlook clients, the clients using outlook 2007, and there outlook is configuered with auto discover, problem is this every day almost on the same time 5:30 PM on all of the clients we get an popup that asked for user name and password, the user name is in the form of exchangeserver\username, we change this to domain\username and try to login but the popup coming back, but after a reboot of exchange server the popupis go on ( untill 5:30 PM).
can this has something to do with certificate between Excahnge and TMG? we did not by ant 3rd party certificate yse, and we are using the same certificate that was created when we were installing the EBS 2008.
I did check the application log around 5:30 PM (time of starting problem)but can not see any error, the only error is MSexchange auto discover:
Unhandled Exception "Exchange Active Directory Topology Service on server localhost cannot be contacted via RPC interface. Error 0x6D9."

- Shahin,
Go ahead and ask your ISP to put reverse DNS for your domain. If you dont have a reverse ptr , lot of domain will reject your emails.

- Shahin,
Looks like soem sort of AD issue as the error says "Exchange Active Directory Topology Service on server localhost cannot be contacted via RPC interface. Error 0x6D9" . Are the DC replicating fine?
Can you resatrt the Topology discovery service without any issue? Also can you try the steps http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839880
Raj - Hi Rajnish,
Thanks for your update,
as you know in EBS 2008 there are 2 DC's: managment server and mssseging server, once a day we cannot open ADUC on the mangment server but after rebooting the server we can afain open ADUC. and we are working on this issue as wel.
I think the error that I send you has some thing to do with AD, but what about the loging popup in outlook?
Thanks,
Shahin
Shahin - Thats again from AD only. The users authentication always happens on AD and not exchange.
Raj - I would ask you to post this under SBS 2008 forum. The SBS specialists over there should be able to help you out quickly.

- Thanks vindo I am doing just that, maybe you can aneswer this question:
I did check our exchange 2007 for the open rely and I know it is close, this exchange server has no Reverse DNS configuration in our public DNS, could it someone use our Exchange server to send spam? or I should contect our ISP and asking them for a Reverse DNS?
Thanks,
Shahin

- Hi,
Please understand that Outlook clients need to get the autodiscover URL from the SCP in AD, that means the autodiscover would be failed to contact if the AD had the issue. Thus, the prompt password was occurred.
To resolve this issue, you need to first get the AD issue resolved.
For the Reverse DNS, please contact the local ISP to setup the PTR record in order to make the email not reject by the external domain due to it's enabled on theirs email server.
Thanks
Allen - HI,
Thanks for all the info we are going to solve the AD first.
