QuestionOutlook Anywhere - Cannot open shared calendar or other folders

I have 2 computers setup outside our network using Outlook Anywhere. Both use Outlook 2003 and connect to a Exchange 2007 server running on Server 2008. All works fine except opening shared Calendars or shared folders. When we click on "Open a Shared Calendar...", a message displays "The connection to the microsoft exchange server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action". However, we are connected to the exchange server. Mail is coming in and mail is going out. Any ideas?

We are not trying to open a specific calendar, just open the option to look for a specific calendar.

This is the first time we have tried to open any shared items. Everything else works fine.

Please understand that you need to grant the permission to user whoever is trying to access the shared calendar.

Ok, i've granted this user access to my calendar with full permission. I click on "open shared calendar" and get the same error message "The connection to the microsoft exchange server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".

Yes you will have to wait for 10 -15 min for changes to take place.

    Hi Greg,

Would you please let me know the environment more detailed?

Whether only one mailbox server is deployed or several mailbox servers are deployed?

If you configure an Outlook Profile in internal network to connect to Exchange by using RPC over Http, whether the issue can be reproduced?

Is this thread still being monitored?  I havea similar situation and really need help but cannot find anything documented.  I have posted questions for help and the threads have and many looks but no replies.  I am interested in learning more about how permissions may play in to this.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

I have the exact same situation with the exact error. The shared calendar has granted access to 2 people. One outside the office and one inside the office. The one inside the office has full access and ability to look and monitor the calendar with no problem at all. The second client (outside the office) is completely unable to even look for a shared calendar. She receives email and she connects to the exchange server address book, but can't look for a shared calendar without getting that exact error. One exchange server environment.
