Public Folder Stores outside of SCR Replication
- Here is my question:
With Exchange Server 2007 SP1 can I have a public folder store on Each of my Exchange 2007 SP1 servers as long as I am not using SCR to replicate the public folder storage groups?
I am only using SCR to replicate the Storage Groups containing our mail databases.
We have 2 Exchange Servers each running the Mailbox, Hub Transport, and CAS roles.

- Here is my answer: :)Yes, outside of any kind of continous replication you can place PF database. You may face problem when you enable xCR on storage group which hosts PF database."Cluster continuous replication (CCR), local continuous replication (LCR), standby continuous replication (SCR), and public folder replication are very different forms of replication built into Exchange. Due to interoperability limitations between continuous replication and public folder replication, if more than one Mailbox server in the Exchange organization has a public folder database, public folder replication is enabled and public folder databases should not be hosted in CCR, LCR, or SCR environments." - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397221.aspx

So just to clarify, sorry I had a rough week with our Exchange Migration....
If I have the Mail Storage Group on EXCH01 with SCR replicating it to EXCH02 and Mail 2 Storage Group on EXCH02 with SCR replicating it to EXCH01, I can have a Second Storage Group on EXCH01 with Public Folder Database, I can also have a Second Storage Group on EXCH02 with a Public Folder Database because I am not enabling SCR on the Second Storage Groups.- yes this is possible.

Yes, such scenario will work
But why do you want to put one public folder database on each mailbox servers? Are you considering getting bigger space for the public folder data?
Continuous replication enabled database has a recommended maximum database size about 200 GB. If that’s enough for you, then you can just enable SCR for public folder database on the second storage group as well. So you can have a standby public folder database, it can definitely save lots of time if the source database is down, because you can give users the standby database, and take your time to repair the source one
- The reason I want to do this in that our EXCH01 server has a much larger database on it than EXCH02. EXCH01 was the first 07 server installed into the Org so it automatically had the Public Folder SG and DB created on it. I want to add a Second Storage group to EXCH02 so that it can replicate. Then once the initial replication is done, I can move all PF replicas from our 2003 Exchange servers to EXCH02 instead of EXCH01 since it has less to do with a smaller mailbox DB on it.
- Hi,
Possible but not recommanded to keep Public folder under Exchange, migrate them to SharePoint it the best solution.
