Answered Autodiscover passes via testexchangeconnectivity; fails within outlook auto configure

We have an exchange server 2010 sp1 in a multi tenant setup (hosted exchange)

All has been well until this weekend; no one has logged into the server, no updates, etc.  Now all the sudden only users from one OU (one customer) can add new email accounts to the system via outlook.

What's weird is that the testexchangeconnectivity.com passes on all tests (minus the autodiscover cname, we are using SRV records), but when I test from the outlook "Test Email Autoconfiguration" I get the below error:

Autodiscover URL redirection to https://mail.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting

Autodiscover URL redirection to https://mail.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml failed (0x800C8203)

SRV Record lookup for domain.com Failed (0x800C8203)

I have used domain.com as an example, but both records are setup correctly and correspond to the appropriate domain.

Clients are a mixture of Outlook 07 and 2010.

What's interesting is that you can add users from only one OU, all other OU you cannot; it will fail on the autodiscover from within outlook.  If you test with the one OU that does work, autodiscover comes back with a success

I have ran all the tests I can find on the forums and everything shows correct.  Anyone have any idea what may be the problem?

    Thanks
    Jared

Well I finally figured out the problem.

Appears that with NTLM authentication with exchange, if you have outlook setup to 'remember password', it will re-use that username and password when you try to create a new account, even though it doesn't ask you for the password

So I had to go to control panel-->user accounts, and choose manage credentials, then remove all credentials I saw associated with my original email account.

From there on I could add a new account, so long as I don't check remember password.

Basically it was not working because my user was in another hosted OU, and that's why the errror message came up regarding the name could not be matched; it was because we were indeed in different address groups.

    Hope this helps someone else.

Just an update on this; I created a vpn connection directly to my exchange server, and setup outlook to not use RPC over HTTPS--just connect to the exchange server directly

Now I get the message The action cannot be completedThe name cannot be matched to name in Address book. when I click "Check Name"

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi itechms,

    Thanks for sharing.

But for hosted Exchange issue, suggest you seek the solution in the Exchange 2010 for Hosters forum:
