Reinstall Client Access Role in Exchange 2007.

I need to reinstall the Client Access Role but I am not able to from Add/Remove Control Panel as it is "greyed out". Also, cannot install from Exchange 2007 SP1 CD because gives me error: Client Access Role Preequisites "Fail". Error: A reboot from a previous installation in is pending. Please restart the system and rerun setup. However, I have restarted with same result. I know there are some Exchange Shell commands you can run by I am not that experinced with I am supposed to try and run and what entries I need to put specific to my server/domain, etc. Is there anything I could so with IIS7 to fix problem. I have removed enteries with the remove commands in Exchange Shell and then tried to create new ones but received the following:

Error while installing exchange 2007

Hi,

I am trying to install an exchange 2007 on win2008 standard, I have got an error: An error occurred. The error code was 2147947410. The message was The object already exists.. during the hub transport installation. Below is part of the log, it is too long so I just copy the part I think is useful.

Hi,

Can someone please help me with my Exchange 07 Hyper V design. I can't find any MS documents that states my design is supported however I can't find anywhere saying it isn't supported so any guideance will be most appriciated. Hear goes...

I have 2 new servers with plenty of resources which I have installed Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper V role on both.

I want to install 3 virtual servers on each server as follows.. 1. Mailbox Role 2. Client Access Role and 3 Hub Transport Role

The Virtual Mailbox role I want to cluster SCC style (with the other virtual Mailbox role on the 2nd server) and the Client Access and Hub Transport will co exist in some sort of load balencing / co existing setup.

I have an ISCSI SAN to store the Mailbox databases and the virtual machine OS's will be stored in VHD's on the local server disks.

Has anyone else attempted this kind of setup or know if I'm likely to run into any brick walls.

Upgrading Exchange from 2003 to 2007-Master domain and 3 sub domains

Prepping our domain for Exchange 2007.

We have a pair of Domain Controllers at the Root Domain and several sub domains, each having their own 32 bit version of Exchange 2003. I tried to prep the root Domain (server2003) running the Trial Version of 2007 Exchange. We have the real version, but not the real, 32bit version. I am getting several errors when I try to run the Setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions, setup.com /prepareSchemaand setup /PrepareAD.

We then tried to add a 2007 Exchange Server on a Sub-Domain. Didn't work and got a whole list of errors.

We are quite sure that we have the right account that has permission down the line, etc.

Do we need to run commands in the Exchange Servers....such as PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions, PrepareAD, etc? Any words of wisdom.
I found on one link where it suggested that we add a 64bit server account to the Root Domain and then run those commands.

The only "supported" production-quality E2K7 is the x64 version, right? Since AD needs to be extended for E2K7, and the preparation/extensions need to be done on the Schema master, is moving the Schema master to x64 an absolute requirement?

If the client is not ready for x64, and Virtual Server does not yet support x64 guests (so we can temporarily putup an x64 virtual DC), and there is no 32-bit version of setup.com, does this mean that the client is SOL as far as going to E2K7 is concerned?

If not, does anyone know a work-around?

Hi People,

I have installed ex2007 on a windows 2003 sp2 domain with exchange 2003 sp1 running parallel (that's the intention).
I setup the exchange 2007 as a CCR with file share witness with, two Mailbox servers, and one edge server hosting HT,CA roles.
All the servers where installed as RTM, then upgraded to SP1, and finally SP2, (I installed the RTM about a year ago and forgot about it due to other commitments); Service packs installed fine.
I have setup the smtp send connector, to forward out our smarthost. checked that with telnet and, it could send email.
Created an EAP
Configured the Accepted Domains
Setup account,
logged on via OWA, sent test msg to current user, arrived in drafts, sent test msg to my personal domain account, again drafts, anything goes in drafts.
Added <add key="PercentageDatabaseDiskSpaceUsedHighThreshold" value="90" /> to EdgeTransport.exe.config that did bugger all really.
Ran Test-Mailflow on the Mailbox servers, failed
Ran Test-Mailflow on the HTCA server, failed! Its not a mailbox server.

Running out of things to try now, please help

Hi Everybody,

I have upgraded my Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007SP1. Everything works fine, except Out Of Office of Outlook 2007 users. Whenever they click on out of office message appears as " Your out of office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later." Authentication for Autodiscovery in IIS is Windows Authentication and on EWS is Windows Authentication. All PCs are joined to domain. Out of office works fine in OWA as well as for other Outlook clients only issue with Outlook 2007 users. Another strange thing is if I de-select proxy settings in Internet Explorer connection settings, Out of Office box appears and works perfectly. As soon as enable proxy settings in Internet Explorer, message stated above again appears. What extra settings I need to do? Can somebody help me?

Our envirment is going to have 2 ISA 2006 servers in front of CAS/HT, it was recomended to us to install the SAN cert that we are installing on the ISA boxes to also install them on the CAS/ht servers instead of installing our own internal cert on the CAS/HT. I am trying to install Exchange server 2007 on Windows server 2008 when installing Exchange it fails on i get an error Cannot calculate value of property "AdminDisplayVersion". SerialNumbers property is not present"

Also can any one tell me what the network adaptor shoud be set to on the Wins tab should it be set to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP of Default we do not use Wins but in documentation that i have read on one piece of documentation it say Disable NetBios over TCP/IP on the Private netwrok adaptor and on others it is conflicting and says Enable NetBios over TCP/IP

Hi We are in the process of deploying Exchange 2007 CCR mialbox cluster. While designing the storage I have the following clarification.

1. In CCR Can we put multiple storage groups in same LUN Like,
LUN1 with SG1 DB,SG2 DB, SG3 DB
LUN2 with SG1 Log, SG2 Log, SG3 Log

2. Which of the following is a better practise for CCR?

a. Putting single Database (SG)with 1050 users in the single LUN with bigger database up to 200 GB
OR
b. Divide these users by creating 3 smaller databases ( SG) with 350 user each on the same LUN.

Note - We have a limitation of maximum storage . We cannot afford lot of LUNS with lots of free space on each . We need to utilize the sapce effectively to provide maiximum mailbox size for user with the give storage.

Hi,

I am currently trying to migrate Lotus Notes 7 .nsf files into a newly installed Exchange 2007 (on server 2008) environment. I do not require a co-existing environment, I just would like to migrate the .nsf mailbox archive files into exchange.

My question is; is it possible to just use the mailbox migration tool that comes with the transporter suite as a standalone tool in order to import the files into Exchange?

I have attempted this already and keep getting the below error:

Error:
The database 'C:\Users\administrator.domainname\Desktop\username.nsf' could not be opened on server 'Local'. The Notes API returned the following error: Could not open the ID file

Also, I'm afraid I know VERY little about Notes, which may be quite obvious. Any pointers would be appreciated!

BTW, my new environment consists of a 2008 DC, an Exchange 2007 server, and a couple more member servers. All newly installed...

Where is the best place to store the virtual machine guest OS (Windows Server 2008) when taking speed and SCC redundancy in to consideration? On my iSCSI SAN or on the local physical machine's disk.

This virtual machine is intended to be the Exchange 2007 mailbox role.

I believe both are supported as long as the OS and Database VHD's are on seperate spindles?.

i have just setup my exchange server after many problems i can finally access my inbox, calendar and contacts from a client or iphone using activesync

i have the same internal domain as external however i cannot get my clients to access the server using my domain, i can only enter the internal ip address for the server 192.168.0.20
i can change the dns server of my network connections on the client to point to my dns /exhchange server and then use the domain
however it wont work if i dont specify the dns

i have my domain setup by adding an a record to my wan ip, this used to show the router config but i removed external config so now nothing gets resolved

how can i set it up so i can just use the domain name (i want to use the same domain for internal and external)
i also have another domain which is setup for a private webhosting account completly separate from this setup, and i want to make it so my exchange server accepts the mail for this domain, im assuming i just need to change the mx record and setup a new accepted domain in exchange, im not sure how i would route all the mail from this external server into a single address on my exchange server, as it accepts wildcard emails such as anythinghere@example.com *@example.com
at the moment i can recieve all these from the master address / catch all so i dont need to setup separate accounts, this is using pop3 currently, i also have a gmail account which i would like to route to my exchange server,
furthermore i do NOT intend to use the email address of my exchange server so it is important that i can recieve email into my exchange server account from these external accounts

We're running a multi site CCR installation of Exchange 2007 SP1 entirely on W2008 servers.

I've read up on the upgrade process including the CCR requirements and am happy with that.

However, I'd like to know if there is a preferred order of upgrading the servers dependent on roles?

Do I need all my CAS's and HUB servers upgraded before upgrading the mailstores or will this not be an issue?

So talking to a co-worker, he is under the impression that we can't put a Hub server in a different site if it's a different subnet. Any truth to this? I don't see how M$ would allow you to have different sites, but all of them would have to use the same subnet.

Due to certin circumstances, I have the task of creating a vmware instance and install a 2nd 2007 exchange server within the same domain. As we will moving to exchange 2010 and do not wish to purchase new hardware for this.

I have read that I will have to use the move mailbox feature for the mailboxes, however how do I copy the rest of the configuration settings currently set within Exchange 2007? Will they replicate on their own?

I ask this Q because. Once Exchange 2007 is setup and working in the vmware session. I am going to be tearing down the orginal server to install Server08 & Exchange 2010. So before I format anything I want to make sure the vmware session of Exchange is working properly.

How long should I leave the 2 existing exchange servers setup and running to ensure everything is as it should be, before I start on my Server 2008 build

Outlook 2007 Login Prompt on Exchange 2007

I installed Exchange 2007 and have moved several mailboxes to it from Exchange 2003. When these users open Outlook 2007 while inside our network they receive a login prompt after opening Outlook. If Outlook is closed and reopened they do not receive a login prompt so it seems to happen only after logging into the compter. They have a TCP/IP connection, hot http, and everything else is working fine. Any ideas?

can anybody help me?
I think I have fallen foul of the new server restrictions.
I have a small new network to install.
I was advised to go the server 2008 route, with exchange 2007.
theis is a single server sute and the exchange install is telling me that I don't have a mailbox database.
all the sites I have looked at have told me that 2007 exchange will NOT work on server 2008 unless there is a server 2003 in there somewhare.
This seem ridiculous to me, I have spent a week on this one, the client is getting itchy.
If I cannot resolve this soon, I will format the drives and go for server 2003 and exchange 2003, at least that works.
why do Microsoft do this? I am really confused.
I have all the updates in place, totally default install on everything, RDP is working so I can work on it into the night, and really annoy my wife and family, etc.

Am I supposed to put something specific in "dc-xyz,dc=com" specific to my domain, etc.?

I also tried:

I am not sure what to put in these entries:

1. Click Start -> Run -> type “adsiedit.msc”

2. Expand Domain partition, find DC=XYZ,DC=com
3. Right-click it, -> Properties -> Security tab -> Advanced.

4. Remove the object “xyz\Exchange Servers” with the related permission.

What do look for above specific to me?

Hi Everyone
I'm trying to find some documentation re excahnge DNS settings.
To clarify my situation, my company Exchange server is server1.company.LAN it is on an internal IP range.
This server has a fully qualified domain name on the SMTP connector as server1.company.COM.
When you run an nslookup on the MX record for company.com it returns the proper external IP address and also the full DNS name server1.company.com
We also deal with mail for remote sites through this server, they generally use company.de. If you do an MX lookup on this address it returns mx0.company.de but points to my external IP address. I can confirm that i can send and receive mail for users in Germany ok through this server.
My ISP confirms that we have proper reverse DNS records in place.
Internally I have an MX record that points to server1.company.COM
I have just added the details company.com to the TCP/IP DNS settings on this server.

My concern is the overall configuration of the DNS for exchange, how to configure it for multiple domains, should the company AD domain be changed from company.LAN to company.COM to match these external MX records.

When I look at the Microsoft Exchange Transport service is contiously tries to start but doesn't. the Microsoft Exchange Active Dictory Topology service started ok. How do I troubleshoot this?

Exchange Servers permissions not inherited

I am having a series of weird behaviours since installing Exchange 2007 sp2 into an existing Exchange 2003 org. I am chasing the possibility that the problems are to do with permissions in AD. The weird thing I am noticing is the the rights given to the Exchange Servers group are not being inherited by the containers below. This is despite the fact that "Allow inheritable permissions" is TICKED on all containers.

So: the Exchange Servers group has a bunch of rights at the level CN=site,CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=Services,CN=Configuration. But on CN=Administrative groups, directly below, the rights are not inherited. If I reapply the rights manually to this level they are not inherited by the container below.

I have run dcdiag against all DCs - nothing of interest.

I should also explain the AD architecture: there is an empty parent domain, and Exchange is installed into the child domain. Therefore the Exchange Servers group exists in the parent domain. Should this effect inheritence? This is the only exchange 2007 installation I've done in a parent-child domain.

I have run setup /preparead in the parent domain, and setup /preparedomain in the child domain multiple times.

The sorts of problems I am seeing: mail stuck in outbox on Exchange 2007, cannot login to OWA due to permission error (though Outlook works). I am also seeing repeated 4001 errors "cannot open System Attendant Mailbox" - though the System Attendant service is started. I have trkied recreating mail stores, which is supposed to recreate the sys attendant mailbox.

Hi I am a newbie to Exchange Server 2007 . I am entrusted with doing a POC for a client who has recently purchased Exchange Server Enterprise 2007 . I was able to install Exchange Server on a 2008 Box which is also configured to act as the Domain Controller . I have been given a Public IP which the client has. Internal Mail flow is working fine however I am unable to set up the external mail flow . I am trying to use a smart host and in the send connector setting I am providing the Public IP. Moreover what should i provide in the accepted domains list as the error i keep on getting that the public mail servers are rejecting my messages because the DOMAIN name could not be identified . I have a public domain name : pfcindia.com : which however is hosting a website : that shouldn't be an issue right ??. I have configured the netwok settings as : ip ADDRESS : THE PUBLIC IP ADDRESS , THE PRIMARY dns I HAVE GIVEN THE LOCAL SYSTEMS ip ADDRESS AND THE SECONDARY i HAVE GIVEN THE isp'S dns SERVER address. Is there any information i need to acquire from the ISP . Kindly guide me so that I can get the basics right !!!

Exchange 2008 installer detects SMTP service but it's not installed

I am trying to install Exchange Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R1, which I recently upgraded from Windows Server 2003. However, the installer fails at the readiness check because it says the SMTP service is installed. However, this is not the case. I uninstalled it, as instructed, from Features under Server Manager. Exchange still detected it. So I also ran the smtpsetup.exe /uninstall for service, common and admin from %windir%\system32\inetsrv. No change. Finally I reinstalled SMTP from Features and then uninstalled it again. Exchange still detects the SMTP service. I've run out of ideas, can anyone enlighten me please? Thank you.

Issue with Terminal service and Outlook 2007

Hi,

I am having some issues with Outlook 2007 accessing from the Terminal service.

My customer is having two Windows Server 2008 64-bit servers. One is used for Exchnage and one for Terminal Services to run applications for remote users. The OWA functions si working fine. However, when a user connects via terminal services, they cannot open Outlook 2007. They get a message

"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

The Exchange Server 2007 with SP1 has been installed in the Exchange server.

Server One is running Windows 2008 64-Bit and Exchange 2007
Server Two is running Windows 2008 64-Bit with 20-Terminal Server licenses and 20-Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007

Please help us to getthe solution in this issue.

We are planning on deploying Exchange into a new domain that does not have any previous version of Exchange installed. We weren't sure if we were going to go with Exchange 2007 or 2010. While we were deciding, I read that the Active Directory schema changes for 2010 were included in the 2007 SP2 schema update. I also read that if you did the schema updates for 2007 SP2 you wouldn't have to do them again when you install 2010 RTM. I went ahead and updated the schema with Exchange 2007 SP2 without any trouble.

We never installed Exchange 2007, instead we decided to go with Exchange 2010 RTM. I started to run setup on the mailbox server and during the Organization Prerequisites readiness check, I received the following Warning:

Setup is going to prepare the organization for Exchange 2010 by using 'Setup /PrepareAD'. No Exchange 2007 server roles have been detected in this topology. After this operation, you will not be able to install any Exchange 2007 server roles.

So my question is...why does it need to run /PrepareAD if I've already run it with the 2007 SP2 media, which is supposed to include the schema changes for 2010? What exactly is this going to do?

Recipient Update Service is missing or is not configured

I receive this error in analyzer: Recipient Update Service is missing or is not configured. I ran the management shell command: Remove-ADPermission "dc=<Domain>" -user "<RootDomain>\Exchange Servers" -AccessRights WriteDACL -InheritedObjectType Group but nothing happened and still had same result. This is exchange 2007 migrated from SBS 2003 which in no longer connected to network. I believe the other error: Recipient Update Service not configured has to do with this issue also. Any information greatly appreciated.

Does mailbox-srv distribute exchange serversettings for Outlook

When I configured Outlook 200 with MOCT there was options for configuring the exchange server settings manually, including settings for OAW.
But this is just for customizing it? Because now I've cleared those settings but the OAW-settings still appear in new distributions of Outlook with the right HTTPS-options and such.

Were are those settings made in Exchange 2007?
Im asking this because Im pretty sure that these OAW-settings wasn't automaticlly setup via AD/Exchange before I tried to configure them in OCT

edit: I've seen Get-OutlookAnyWhere cmdlet, and it shows the right information. I just don't remember when we set that part up. But as long as there is settings in get-outlookanywheresettings, the are distributed to the clients i guess.

But if we alter this settings on the servers (get-outlook...) will the clients update their settings or are they just set initially during setup?

I am so confused about this whole UCC certificates that I need to buy for Exchange Server 2007.
I have spent the last 3 weeks reading up on SSL certificates and also autodiscover service for Exchange 2007.

I just need somebody to give me a straight answer to my question.

I have the following scenario:

domain.com = the domain that the exchange server is part of.
exchsrv.domain.com = the name of the exchange server.

hostingdomain1.co.za = this is a company that I will be hosting emails for.
hostingdomain2.co.za = this is a second company that I will be hosting emails for.

My question is: What names must be in the UCC certificate?

Information to help you.
domain.com has no internal users.
hostingdomain1 and hostingdomain2 has only external users that will make use of outlook anywhere.
hostingdomain1 and hostingdomain2 are separate companies.

Is it possible to simply force https://exchange2007/exchange to point to the local 2007 mailboxes instead of immediately redirecting to the exchange 2003 server? After the migration, I would like to use the same URL they have always used to access their webmail instead of giving out the /owa name. Some people hate change....

Hi everyone.

First question would be, for a company with 50 users, 50% being very light most likley what RAID configuration would you use for the database array? Still a RAID 5, or RAID1 / RAID 10?

Also If you build a Vitual Server using Hypr V to house a DC and Exch server for the same amount of users what configuration?

Raid 1 - host OS
Raid 1 - Guests OS
Raid 5 - 2 VHD for Exch databae and some light file storage?

Reinstalling the "Client Access" Server Role

I was trying to configure exchange 2007 OWA when I came across some issues with OWA virtual directories. I tried to recreate the OWA virtual directories but the problem persists. Anyway I found and tried to implement the following KB:
