Exchange 2003
Hi
we have exchange 2003 running on windows 2k server which has DNS Server & all FSMO Roles.
Our information store size is 1 TB & database has been stored on SAN. I would like to create additional Exchange server on member server & move the entire database from first server to second server.
Since our first server more then 5 years old, we would like to move exchange to additional server & decommissions first server. We have Blackberry server as well.
Is the following procedure is correct.- Install win2k3 server as a member server.
- Run domain prep through exchange deployment cd.
- Select Additional exchange server.
- Regarding mailbox move, I will use exchange migration utilty.since database is on SAN, DOES IT MOVE ONLY POINTER on san database while moving database.
- I have four storage groups with 18 mailbox store.
- Once mailbox moved, Replicate Public folder.
It will be great if you can send me step by step procedure.
Regards,

How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative group
There is no need to run domainprep unless you installing Exchange into another AD domain that hasnt already had domainprep run against it.
If you move mailboxes, it moves them to a new database - so there its not simply a matter of changing a pointer. You will need the required database and transaction log space on the destination storage.
As you empty the source databases, you can remove them to free up space.- Proposed As Answer byJames-LuoMSFT, ModeratorTuesday, November 10, 2009 5:08 AM

- Depending on your storage vendor they may have an Exchange tool to help move the entire .MDB files to the new location. Also I've noticed with blackberries in the environment, if you move a mailbox to a different message store on the same server, the blackberry will need to be reloaded in BES. If you move to a different physical server, which it sounds like you are doing, it shouldn't be any issues.
