Unanswered Mail contact not recognised when receiving e-mail

    Situation:

I am in the middle of a transition from one Exchange 2000 to one Exchange 2007 server.
All mailboxes have already been moved to the Exchange 2007 server.
We have many mail-enabled 'mail contacts'.

    Problem:

When receiving mail via the Exchange 2000 server all 'mail contacts' are recognized and visible in the from field in Outlook.

When receiving mail via the Exchange 2007 server all 'mail contacts' are NOT recognized and visible in the from field in Outlook.

(In stead of the name of the 'mail contact' the name of the sender is visable in the From field of Outlook.)

Someone any adea where to search?

I am a little confused on your situation.  Mail enabled contacts are people that exist outside of your organization that you want to show up in your GAL (easily accessible for your internal employees).  So I am not following the part where the mail enabled contact would be in the From field.  You would pick the contact for your To field.  Are the contacts showing up in your GAL?

Are you trying to add "Send As" or "Send on Behalf" permission to a mail enabled contact?

Please confirm exactly what you are wanting.

Yes i understand your confusion, but when you receive e-mail from a mail enabled contact, the correct name (from the mail enabled contact) has to be in the from field!

I will give the following example. I have a mail enabled contact and i have give it the name: 'John Walker Microsoft'

    with e-mail addres: john.walker@microsoft.com

When receiving e-mail directly via our Exchange 2000 server it shows the name 'John Walker Microsoft' correctly in Outlook. (so exchange 2000 sees that the e-mail is from john.walker@microsoft.com and it gives it the name 'John Walker Microsoft'.)

But when receiving e-mail directly via our Exchange 2007 server it does not show the name from the mail enabled contact, but for example

'J. Walker'. Which is the name that the sender adds to his e-mail address. It is not the name i have given it in the mail enabled contact.

So it looks like the e-mailadres is not recognized by the Exchange 2007 server to give it the name 'John Walker Microsoft'.

I hope it is clear now. Tomorrow i will test what will happen when i add e new mail enabled contact directly on the Exchange 2007 server.

Sending e-mail to mail enabled contacts in the GAL works perfectly.

    Hi,

Would you please let me know whether these contacts have displayed in GAL already?

The problematic contacts display email address directly in mail, right?

What's going on the new contact you created in exchange 2007?

    Thanks

Indeed, all mail contacts exist in the GAL.

Yes, the e-mail addres is normal visable when receiving the e-mail.

Today i created a new mail enabled contact on the Exchange 2007 server with e-mail address tmpgll@gmx.com and name 'TEMP G'

Wait a few ours. Point my e-mail directly to Exchange 2007 server, mail has been received correctly, but the name is not displayed as 'TEMP G'.

After that i point my e-mail back to Exchangen 2000 server, sent a test e-mail, and directly te name is displayed as 'TEMP G' when receiving the e-mail.

I think i miss a point in the transation.

Maybe i have to upgrade global address lists, but I thouht upgrading GAL is only to manage them in Exchange 2007 console?

We have 3 global address lists:

    'default global address list'

    'ga'

    'global address list'

All of them are not yet upgraded, and version 6.5.6500.0. I also cannot see which of the 3 are used, so the other 2 maybe can be disabled.

More techical information about this but unfortunately still no solution:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/exchangesvrtransport/thread/a4a47342-44f8-4331-af6a-7fd64c1bc18d/

This is exactly the same. It is hard to find information if there is a solution for this.

It seems to me many companies use mail contacts and want to have the display name visable when e-mail will be received.

If someone can shine some more light on this, much appreciated.
