Here is a list of ports used on Exchange 2003, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124075(EXCHG.65).aspx.

Is there a firewall between the two servers or is Windows firewall turned on?

    Thanks

    Will

    hi Will

no windows firewall....and no firewall either...the 5.5 servers communicate together perfectly....but the installation wont have it, the adc tool said all was ok...they are in the same site in exchange but 2 different physical locations, using leased lines.

ill double check all the firewall etc..just in case..

    UPDATE

ive just tried telnet to the server on port 389, all seems ok ...
