WM only sends shortname to DNS server

Hi, I'm using WM6.0 on a HTC device.
We connect to web servers on our LAN via SSLVPN connection.

Windows Mobile is not appending the Domain suffix to the address. so our internal DNS server (Windows 2003) is not resolving the address.

If I manually append the Domain suffix to the address to make a FQDN, then the web page is displayed correctly.
By logging the queries on the DNS server, I can see the difference between the request that resolve (with suffix) and don't resolve (without suffix).

I have followed the instructions in:

and set the registry key on the PDA

HKLM\Comm\MSEC\IPSECVPNNIC1\Parms\TCPIP\ Domain
This does not work and the requests reach the DNS server, without a suffix.

Has anyone else had problems getting this registry key to work?, or am I missing something else!

Hi All

So - this has been confusing me for a while :) Different people say different things..

Is EAS true push technology in the same way that BES is?

According to the Windows Mobile white paper here, it is

If anyone can shed light on the support code i mention above other than it is an invalid cert I would really appreciate it. The cert i am using is valid. It is a Thwarte cert and OWA works fine. I have followed all of the docs available and still no luck. It worked for a brief period of time but now i am basically back to nothing.

Terribly frustrating. How this is ecpected to be a enterprise deployment option is beyond me. The vast number of posts and articles are about self signed certificates and non address a standard recommened and cliamed to be supported ISA / Exchange front end - backend configuration.

Calendar Sync Problem

Hi, I just got a Verizon TouchPro 2 and the syncing with Exchange seems to work fine except for calendar entries that came from a POP3 account DO NOT Sync.

(I had a Palm Treo 700 and this worked fine.)

Here is a scenario: someone emails me a meeting invite to a POP3 account of mine (not my main email address that is handled by Exchange.) Outlook pulls in the message using POP3 and then it's stored in Exchange.

Using Outlook, I can accept the request and it goes into my calendar.

The problem is these entries will NOT sync with the TP2!

The phone is running WM 6.1.

Any ideas????

Large Activesync Deployments

I am interested to hear from anyone who has a shifted from BES from an Activesync only deployment or at the least using a good number of AS devices along with Blackberry. We are supporting about 140 blackberries but only around 50 activesync devices...which isnt a lot in comparison to some companies, but as we shift towards exchange 2010 I would like to see us move more towards Activesync devices and reduce some headaches.

I am looking for some solidly documented business case scenario's to support this and even first hand experience from other admins who have moved one way or another and their feelings.

I am looking to create a script that can query user agents with their associated user account names in order to monitor who is using what mobile devices over ActiveSync. I found this article and was able to isolate the .csv files, but was running into issues importing it into a SQL database. Is there an easier way that someone is aware of to go about doing this? The .csv files provided me with a lot of excess data which weren't relevent for this, I'm looking to extract just the required information I'm looking for, if at all possible.

Strange behaviour with Exchange push

I'm running WM 6.5 on an HTC device and have set up an Exchange account (to a Exchange 2007 server). My problem is that Exchange push mail doesn't work properly! Worked fine in previous ROM (Windows 6.1), although I have identical settings.

When I log on to Outlook on my laptop and download my new e-mails, THEN my phone suddenly wakes up and downloads the e-mails as well automatically although they are not connected together! What's that all about?! And even though I manually send/receive on my phone it doesn't download new items. I have to open Outlook on my laptop first. And as long as I have Outlook open on my laptop, the push works on the phone. What the...?

When I log on to the webmail login and read the e-mails, then the e-mails are downloaded to my phone, but only the e-mails that I have read! The ones that are left unread, are not downloaded to my phone.

So this is the case:
• The mails that I have reviewed in the webmail login are downloaded to my phone. The ones that are not read, are not downloaded.
• All mails that are downloaded with Outlook are also downloaded to my phone (including unread e-mails), as long as I keep Outlook open and running.

Remark: If I do a manual send/receive on my phone, I clearly see:
1. Connecting...
2. E-mail: 0/1
3. E-mail: 1/1
4. Returned to idle mode, but no new e-mail.

What could I do to fix this?!

Iphone e activesync exchange 2003

Good morning.
I have a problem that for me is impossible to resolve.
I connect my IPHONE by exchenga activesync. And it work.
But the IPHONE see the new e-mail only if i open outlook on a client. If i leave my outlook close the iphone not recive the mail.
In my server work proprietly the popmail connector and have no problem.
I see in the account manager, i oppen the propriety of my account and in the exchange caracteristic i see a "!" red near the icon update notifications under the mobility service. Is right???
How can i resolve my problem????

Alerts for emails in subfolders in WM6.5

Just got HTC TP2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 and am only receiving Audio and Visual alerts for new messages (and how many there are) in my Inbox and no Audio, Visual, or number count notification (on the main screen) about New Messages in any subfolders.

If I go to the dropdown menu in my inbox to list all the folders, it will display the new message count there.

Using the Exchange to push out emails to alert when equipment or ports go down and emails in general.

Is there a solution to this without installing 3rd party apps (seen a couple posts that say there's a 3rd party app to resolve)?

Vista Active Sync NOT Synchronizing with Outlook 2007

I'm running Vista Ultimate with MS Office 2007. Every time i try to sync outlook with my HP iPAQ (Win CE 2003 SE) rx3115 I get this error message

"SYNCHRONIZATION CANNOT BE COMPLETED BECAUSEMICROSOFT OUTLOOK CANNOT OPEN THE TASK FOLDER. CLOSE OUTLOOK AND THEN START OUTLOOK AGAIN. ONCE OUTLOOK IS RUNNING, DISCONNECT YOUR MOBILE DEVICE AND RECONNECT. IF THE PROBLEM PRESISTS, REINSTALL OUTLOOK"

This is what i have tried so far:

Uninstall & Reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center version 6.1
Downloaded all available updates from MS through Auto Updater
Uninstall & Reinstall Outlook 2007
Uninstall & Reinstall Outlook 2003 no change
Did a hard reset on my PDA
Did everything they talk about on this website (One of the best I found)
I ran office Diagnostics tool which did not find anything.

I did have it workign for sometime that out of no where it just stopped syncing. It does connect becaue i can browse all the files on the PDA throught Windows Explorer and it does show up in My Computer. I can sync with Media Player but that's only music. I need it to sync with Outlook. It worked fine when I had XP Pro with MS Office 2007. Anyone have any thought ides??? I'M AT MY WITS END...???

List Exchange-ActiveSync Device Partnerships

I'm running an mixed Exchange environment with an Exchange 2007 CAS and Exchange 2003 Back-End. Is there a way to get a list of all the mobile devices that have a partnership with Exchange? I can do it by manually entering everyones smtp address in the MobileAdmin tool one at a time but that is not very efficient.

I tried using the management shell on the CAS server but i didnt have any luck (could be my poor powershell skills). I can list all the mailboxes on the 2003 server but cant get activesync device statistics on any of them using the shell.

Windows mobile clients can't connect with current certficate

Ok, little history here. We had a single Ex2003 server, migrated to 2007 over the weekend (all in one)...everything works for the most part with the exception of Windows Mobile devices using activesync. We now have a UCC certificate using the same common name on the new server, however now all our phones that syncs with the server complain about an invalid certificate. Ironically, our Apple iPhone users where simply asked to "Accept the new certificate" and life was good. How can I get the phones to accept the new certificate on the new server?

Hi All

We are currently running Exchange 2003 SP2 and Exchange 2007 SP1 in mixed mode in our domain.

I need to make a change so that users connecting via ActiveSync (to either 2003 or 2007 mailbox servers) already need a password set on their device before they can activate wirelessly.

I see the "Allow non-provisionable devices setting" in the Exchange Management Console for 2007 and also the "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings" in ESM for 2003, do I need to set these both to "no" in order to achieve my aim, or is there another setting I should be looking for?

I've a Exchange 2003 sp2 and iPhone 3GS, the push mail has been enabled and work perfectly.
However, after I installed mobile admin tools on my Exchange03, I can see my device in "Remote Device Wipe", when I enter my e-mail address, it report " Failed to access user's Mailbox, verify that the mailbox and user account are enabled and functional. ".
Please help.

Activesync issue with multiple servers

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I have 4 exchange server 2003 sp2 servers. 1 is a dedicated front end server and the other three are mailbox servers. The front end server and 1 of the mailbox servers are legacy machines and the other two have been in production for over just a year. All systems are fully patched.

We recently have been asked to support the iPhone. People on the legacy server had no issues connecting to their mailboxes but people on the two newer servers are unable to connect. If I move their mailbox to the legacy system they are then able to connect. Everyone is able to connect via OWA.

I've checked all the setting and can't see a difference between the older and newer servers.

Anyone able to help?

I would like know how to set Exchange 2003 and PDA to make it synchronize together? So in fact I have 3 questions:

1- How to configure Exchange 2003 for mobile device as PDA?
2- How to configure PDA (Windows Mobile 6.1) to synch with Exchange 2003?
3- when it ask for the Exchange server name, is it the same name for Exchange proxy server when we configure RPC OVER HTTP?

This has a bare mention of Exchange 2007, and appears to be RTM related. It mentions where to find a setting in the web.config, but has no recommendation on what to extend it to.

Also, if I extend the MaxHeartbeatInterval, it seems I also need to extend the ProxyHandlerLongTimeout. It also seems I might just be having these informationally and that I need to configure my HbiAlertThreshold to something more fitting, but I have no recommendation on what that would be, either.

Their firewall is indeed suspect, but there are no HTTPS timeout values to be set on it. (IBM Proventia M60) The customer knows the Firewall is dated and potentially an issue, but there is no workaround at this point.

BTW, the testexchangeconnectivity site and the AccessmyLAN Activesync tester pass just fine (from Internet, or from LAN, explicitly testing against each NLB node.

I am running out of ideas – anyone?

Attachements not downloading from Gmail exchange server...

Hi Just got HTC Touch 2 with Win mobile 6.5 release, I synchronized the outlook with gmail push support (Thanks god they started supporting it lately...) everything works perfectly fine, just one major glitch, whenever I try to download big attachments file, For eg 7-8 mb files, It starts up with saying downloading... but after few secs it displays a message loading and nothing happens, dont really think it can download meesage in few secs as I am using 256Kpbs broadband line with a wifi router... I tried configring may mail through POP method too but I dont know y it never downloads big attachments. Here is list of Items I have checked up to resolve the problem... but none worked...There is no problem with connection as everything else works fine...

Checked up sstorage space option( I have set it to memory card and my memory card has some 500Mb of space free)
Checked up Eset Antivirus, if it is blocking the download, disabled it but didn.t worked.
checked up the option in account setting itself where it shows the option to download headers only or full message or message including attachments but doesnt work...

Any other possible reason...Please help...

Hi all,

I have a WM5 IPAQ hw6915 device that that is using the Exchange 2003 SP2 Push Email features. The connection is via GPRS through a VPN to a Front-End server on the LAN. The PUSH email part works good. I can recieve emails and emails with attachments. I can even send emails, but I am having trouble sending emails with attachments. Everytime I do the sync just sits and eventually stops. The error states it could not connect to the server and the email with the attachment just does not get sent (Sat in OUTBOX). If another email is in front of the send queue without an attachment it goes without a hiccup. What does PocketOutlook (ActiveSync) do different connection wise when an attachment is sent?

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello to all as this is my first question in the Forum.

Network setup : Exchage Box (Exchange 2007) on a Windows Server 2008.

ISA 2006 on another native box.

My organisation has the policy of one computer/user and so we have computer access restriction.

Users are using Outlook 2003.

Currently remote users VPN into the network to then open their Outlook to check mails. I thought I should configure Outlook Anywhere to completely get rid off of VPN and there comes the problem.

Users (like Domain Admins - have access to all the computers in the AD), Outlook Anywhere works fine. It prompts for the Username and Password (Domain\Username and then password) and Outlook connects to the Exchange server fine. Tried with Outlook 2003 and 2007 and everything works fine.

Users who have restricted access to only 1 or 2 computers, Outlook Anywhere does not work. It prompts for the Username and password and keeps prompting for it.

I have tried few things like giving access to users to Domain Controller and ISA box but nothing is working.

I cannot say that Outlook Anywhere is not setup properly because it works for Domain Admins.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I should look for the problem.

Getting a Motorola Droid to sync with Exchange

Guys, I just picked up a Droid, the device is marketed as supporting Exchange sync out to the box. Well, it turns out that that is a bit of an ambitious statement.

I am having a difficult time getting it to sync properly. After some research, it looks like this may be because the Android OS 2.0 doesn't fully support ActiveSync provisioning, which really is an Exchange best practice for security. What is the best way to disable this feature in Exchange on a per-user basis so that we may do a test?

I have both iPhone 3G and 3Gs with OS version 3.1.2 that sync mail with EAS on Exchange 2007. The policy is set to NOT allow attachments but both iPhones still get attachments. A Win Mobile with the same policy applied don't get attachments.

In EAS log you can find when a Win Mobile device sync the command "Cmd=GetAttachment&DeviceId=0xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx E&DeviceType=PocketPC&AttachmentName=11%3a82%3a0&Log=V121_RpcC22_RpcL15_Erq1_Ers1..........."

But when an iPhone users sync there is only "Cmd=Sync&Log=...." and "Cmd=Provision&Log=......."

My enviroment:

-Exchange 2007 SP2
-ISA 2006 for EAS publishing

Apple and MS posted artichles about EAS policies not being implemented on iPhones models pre OS 3.0 but this confuses me. Anyone?

mails marqued like not readed

Hi everyone;
We have a exchange 2003 mail server working correctly.
There exist users who consult his mail from mobile devices.
This is the problem: when a mobile user read his mail in his pc at the office, all mails appear like "readed", because the pc is on and it sincronize with exchange; this is; when a blackberry access to the exchange using POP3 the mails are marked like well-read, for what when the PC connects with the exchange they turn out to be like well-read.
Is it possible to avoid this and that the mails turn out to be like not well-read in the PC?

Activesync webadmin tool access requirement

I have setup the Activesync webadmin tool on CAS box and now I would like to give access to first level support guys to manage the windows devices. I know min requirement is exchange administrator role but can not give access to them. Is there a way I can give only remote wipe and remove device from partnership access to a AD group so that that they can manage devices using this tool?

I have inherited a sbs 2003 server and have little knowledge of exchange push email features. Push to Samsung Blackjack ii was working fine until 2 weeks ago. Now, the user must be logged on to Exchange through Outlook at the workstation in order to receive pushes. Once they turn their workstation off, email no longer comes to phone until re-login at the workstation. Bizarre. WM 6. Any ideas?

we have CAS server in windows 2008 and mailbox server on windows 2003. Previous we run cas server on windows 2003 and all works fine. now I try to setup IIS7 for certificate authentication, but without success. we setup spn's, trust delegations, on IIS7 enable AD client certificate authentication, request client certificate for /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and enable windows authentication. but this not working. can anyone point to article how to configure IIS7 certificate authentication?

I am having trouble trying to sync my palm treo with my computer, the phone gives me a support code of 0x8503001F and says: "Cannot synchronize with the Outlook profile you are using, because a different profile was previously set up or the profile is password protected. Please open Outlook using the appropriate profile."

Any help anyone would could give would be greatly appreaciated.

Activesync and recurring meetings with exceptions

We're running Exchange 2007 SP1 (RU 5) and have just noticed that our ActiveSync phones do not sync any exceptions that a user makes to recurring meetings.

At the same time we noticed that our SyncML (Funambol which uses WebDAV) evironment was experiencing the same issue.

Now I'm just starting to investigate this, and I can't see much about it on the web. Is this a known issue with Exchange 2007 ActiveSync or could this be phone specific?

Any ideas?

Activesync Issues

Environment:

Information store: Server and general mail Exchange 2003 sp2 win2k3r2sp2.(Server Configured as back end server)
Activesync Server:Activesync is installed and information store disabled. (Server is configured as front end server.)

I publish my Activesync,RPC over HTTPS and OWA sites via ISA 2006 on win2k3r2sp2.

I use www.testexchangeconnectivity.com to do my testing if the setup is working correctly.

Everything is green.

Question:I have one or 2 users syncing to windows mobile 6.1 devices Complaining. They are complaining that mails are not updating their status properly when read on device or outlook.

I.e. MAil raid on outlook and after activesync is run on phone it is not marked as read on the phone. Or the reverse Mail read on phone then activesync is run and it is not flagged on outlook.

Where can I look to see what might be wrong?? No errors in event log that I can see.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Removing the Default Activsync Policy

We are Running Exchange 2007 SP1 w/rollup9 on a Win2008 Enterprise OS.

Having an issue with several users running Palm 755P mobile devices. The Palm device with VersaMail fails with the error: AirSAMStateMachine.c 1913 4628. All other mobile devices working without issue.

Google searches suggest the removal of the DEFAULT ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy via PowerShell command:

Remove-ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy - idenity "Default".

Some searches state that remote wipe ability will be lost if the default policy is removed.

Can the "Default" ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy policy be safely removed and for that matter restored without affecting other mobile device users? Is there a any corrective actions that can be done from the server side? The only solution suggested by the mobile vendor is to remove the default policy.

Outlook Anywhere question

We have a CAS/HUB server and a Mailbox server. We use the CAS for Webmail so can I turnon Outlook Anywhere using the same address as out front page for our users to access webmail or other internal stuff i.e. webmail2007.domain.com or do I have to use a different address for rpc like rpc.domain.com. Also Our Excchange 2007 sites like owa and so on are not in the (Default Website) they are in a second website which is using a host header to point to webmail2007.domain.com so to get to webmail the link is webmail2007.domain.com/owa I have a Cert for that site but we could get another for the rpc I just want to do it right and have the rpc virtual directory go to the right site.

I want to allow only ActiveSync syncronization of calendar items (no e-mail syncroniztion).

The reason is to prevent data leakage if the mobile device is lost.

I could not find in the "Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policy" a way to control which elements of the mailbox are allowed to be sync.

I'm searching something similiar to the tab "Segmantation" in the "Outlook Web Access Mailbox Policy" (but with the option to disable E-mail).

I know that each user can define which folders to sync, but I want to enforce this in the Organization configuration level.

I'm working with Exchange2007 SP1.

I have the following incident with exchange 2007 activesync.
for security policy every 30 days change the user account password in the domain, but when I change the password in the comain to a user who has activesync Windows Mobile, when the mobile device sync does not ask for update the password gives error code 85010014 and many attempts the user accountis bloqued.
to update the password on the mobile device is necessary to open the activesync settings and update your password from the server options int he mobile

With the release of exchange 2003 when I performed the change password of a user who had OMA and synchronized your mobile device automatically asked for the password to the update.

The question is:
What can I do so that when users exchange 2007 activesync change their password on the mobile device ask automatically to update the password and not have to enter server settings in ActiveSync to update the password.

I am trying to troubleshoot exchange 2007 on sbs 2008 activesync with two samsung phones.
Using a godaddy cert. Ran a test on testexchangeconnectivity and it fails at the end of test. 401 IIS error.
The phone gets 0x85010002 error. I could use some assists. articals, suggestions any ideas.

trying to synch my HP IPAQ 2400 series with my laptop but I get the msg 'Activesynch problem on desktop' and the above SC. This advised me to upgrade to Asynch 4.5 from 4.1 so I did this but when I attempt to open the download I get the msg "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer package" WHAT!!!!!??????

I'm just a user and don't really understand this or who to turn to. Both the laptop and handheld are HP devices so I would have thought there would be no problems

Configuring Activesync in Exchange 2003 (SBS)

I am having difficulty to configure exchange 2003 (ON a SBS server) for Activesync. My requirement is to synchronise exchange emails and contact with iphones.
I installed godaddy certificate in the IIS default website and OWA works fine.
I followed your site instructions which is similar to MS article ID 817379.
When I tried to sync iphone, it says user authentication failed. I tested it with Exchange Remote Connectivity analyzer and got following result.
