I get the above error and the below verbage whenever any users iphone tries to get email.

This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #1. The client at "64.168.166.241" sent a "xexch50" command, and the SMTP server responded with "504 Need to authenticate first ". The full command sent was "xexch50 2088 2". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

Have them use ActiveSync instead. Unless they are using version 1.0, the Iphones can be configured to use ActiveSync and therefore no need to relay via SMTP to send a message.

If they were using ActiveSync, their devices wouldnt be accessing the SMTP service.
Also, you stated before "whenever any users iphone tries to get email." SMTP isnt used for getting mail, so something else is going on not related to the Iphones.

Is 64.168.166.241 a client you are responsible for?
Does the Exchange server accept mail directly from the Internet?
