Inbound faxing
- We are replacing our Interetel PBX with a new Mitel 5000 system. The old system provided inbound faxing to our users Outlook inboxes, each user has their own fax number. However, we are not purchaing UM for the Mitel due to the cost and that we only need a few users to receive faxes. We do not need to send faxes. The Mitel 5000 is an IP capable PBX, but apparently does not integrate directly with Exchange 2007 UM, so I assume I need some kind of IP or SIP gateway. I have read a lot of the Technet articles, but I am still unclear if inbound faxing is possible using the Mitel and Exchange 2007, or what the additional piece is I need to make this work. And again, the only service we need from Exchange 2007 UM is inbound faxing.
Thanks

- Hi, I have a similar configuration however, we're using Mitel 3300 IP PBX's. In order to support inbound faxing we purchased a Dialogic Fax Gateway the configuration is a bit tricky.
One thing I would note though is that in Exchange 2010 the are removing the support for inbound faxing and outsourcing it to external partners so when and if you migrate you will have to come up with a new solution.
We have a DMG2000...
This is the config file from the DMG2000.. The file will be available for two weeks.

If you search the config file for yourdomain you will see the fields I changed.
The mitel system will also require some configuration..
1. Say this is you fax rang 30324322XX
2. You will need to route that range to the Dialogic Gateway
3. You will also need to point the dialogic gateway to the UM box..

- Thanks for the good information, especially the heads up about 2010. It looks like what we are going to do in the short term is route inbound faxes to a Canon Super 3G faxboard we already have, and let it distribute them. I'll be looking into the DMG for sure.

We do very little outbound faxing, and we still have three physical fax machines for outbound only use. Do you know if there's any way to combine the DMG and Ex2010 to keep inbound faxing going, or do we have no alternative but to use the third party solutions?
Rory.
