  • You can control what gets backed up from where by USMT with the mig XML files:

    I hope that helps,

  • If D: drive is an external drive, you can exclude it with /localonly (See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560792(v=WS.10).aspx).  Otherwise you could exclude as Nash said via XML as part of an unconditionalExclude:

    <pattern type="File">D:\*[*]</pattern>

  • Hi Kavin, I got the same requirement as you do.  I use REFRESH scenario with MDT 2012 and USMT 5.0.

    Is this what you do to make it works?

    <migration urlid="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/allfiles">
        <component type="Documents" context="System">
            <displayName>Test</displayName>
            <role role="Data">
                <rules>
      <unconditionalExclude>
                        <objectSet>
          <pattern type="File">D:\*[*]</pattern>
                        </objectSet>
      </unconditionalExclude>
                </rules>
            </role>
        </component>
    </migration>

    I am still new to MDT, how do we apply that ?  Where do we put the xml file in the deployment share ? Do we need to put a line of script in the customsettings.ini ?

    Regards

    Aan

  • Hi Aan, use this code in your "UDIoffline.xml" it will work fine,

    also USTM will only take the users folder for backup in C-drive and it will not backup Total C- Drive

    <component type="Documents" context="System">

      <displayName>Exclude entire C drive,capture Profile</displayName>
      <role role="Data">
        <rules>
            <include>
            <objectSet>
              <pattern type="File">C:\users\*[*]</pattern>
            </objectSet>
          </include>
          <unconditionalExclude>
                        <objectSet>
    <pattern type="File">c:\*[*]</pattern>
    <pattern type="File">D:\*[*]</pattern>
    <pattern type="File">E:\*[*]</pattern>
    <pattern type="File">F:\*[*]</pattern>
                            <script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDrivePatterns ("_SMSTaskSequence [*.*]", "Fixed")</script>
                            <script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDrivePatterns ("MININT [*.*]", "Fixed")</script>
                        </objectSet>
                    </unconditionalExclude>
                </rules>
            </role>
        </component>

  • Thank you for sharing Kavin, I will try tomorrow morning.

    This morning I tried to add some line to exclude D/E/F drive  in MigDocs.xml under \DeploymentShare\Tools\x86\USMT5 without modify customsettings.ini and somehow it resolve my issue with duplicate file issue that cause a warning in USMT "Windows Error 112, There is not enough space on the disk" and save me 1 hour. But when I checked on the \DeploymentShare\Tools\x86\USMT5 it revert to the MigDocs before I modified.

    As a newbie to MDT I still configure out how MDT works, do you think I did the right things ? Which script MDT read first , UDIOFFline or the USMT xml files ?

  • hi , don't use the MigDocs.xml this XML is for only including and excluding user documents, MDT will first check the UDIOFFline. XML.  use the above

    instruction your issue will be solved. :)
