  • Hi SLNSH,

In SQL Server 2000, we use the Database Maintenance Plan Wizard to configure log shipping, but now it is not used as part of the log shipping configuration in SQL Server 2005 or later version. Even if we cannot restore a SQL Server 200 backup files to a SQL Server 2005 instance with the native SQL Server log shipping tools, we can implement it manually.

Basically we will need two jobs at each server.
    Main Server:
1.Full backups at your favorite schedule followed by a backup log.
    2. Log backups every 5-15 mins (Notes: append them to the same file).

    "Backup" server:
1.Full backup restore, copy DB locally and restore with no recovery
2.Log restore, copy Log file locally and restore with no recovery.

    Thanks,
    Sofiya Li

  • Hello,

Only someone from Microsoft can tell you that, and I'm sure it's under NDA.

  • I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to restore a tlog backup from 2000 to 2005. Did you try that? Do you have a source for that statement?
