Error 0xC004C032 "The activation server reported that new time based activation not available" for Win2012 Standard Evaluation

    Question

  • Hello!

We are trying to activate the 180 day evaluation period for a copy of Windows Server 2012 Standard Evaluation (downloaded from the Microsoft Windows 2012 Evaluation page (ISO image 9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_HRM_SSS_-US_DV5.ISO). When the installer runs and we select Standard Edition and later we try to activate, it gives us error 0xC004C032 "The activation server reported that new time based activation not available".

The weird thing though is on an impulse I reran setup with the DataCenter edition selected and Activation completes just fine.

Is this a by-design limitation that we cannot evaluate the Standard Edition for the full 180 days?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your posting.

    According to the following article:

For all Windows Server 2012 editions,  you have 10 days to complete online activation, at which point the evaluation period begins and runs for 180 days. During the evaluation period, a notification on the Desktop displays the days remaining the evaluation period (except in Windows Server 2012 Essentials). You can also run slmgr.vbs /dlv from an elevated command prompt to see the time remaining.
