Office update disables svcrestarttask in SoftwareProtectionPlatform task

    General discussion

  • Windows 7 SP1 64bit.  Updating the office software (the persistent reminder) changes the Software Protection Platform svcrestarttask from SYSTEM user to NETWORKSERVICE user and disables the task (set to run at midnight everyday).  Is this normal, something to be worried about?  It also changed the service from automatic to auto/delayed start.

Note - another thread suggested these cmds:

    icacls %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform /grant "BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F)" "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F)" "NT Service\sppsvc:(OI)(CI)(R,W,D)" "NETWORK SERVICE:(OI)(CI)(F)"

net stop sppsvc && net start sppsvc

    or net start sppsvc

which seemed to fix it until the task until it ran itself, then it disabled it again.

  • Hi,

Based on my research, if it didn’t compact your usage, you could ignore this changes. It just allow network service account have sufficient permission to start this process.

In fact, it works with network service account. for more information, you could read following article:
