  • Is this a domain controller and are you trying to log into it as the Local Administrator? If so, you can't. If it's a local account that is not allowing you log in, you could use a Domain Admin account, log in and change/unlock the local account on the computer. If this isn't feasible and you need to unlock the local account, you could use a tool called NTpasswd that you need to boot the computer into, and it 'rewrites' the local SAM with your new/cleared password. It can also enable/unlock local accounts too. However, this won't work on a DC and you should use with caution!

  • Hello,

what about the DSRM account, does it work? Anyway, WITHOUT guarantee and on your own risk use http://www.petri.co.il/reset_domain_admin_password_in_windows_server_2003_ad.htm

The official statement from Microsoft is you have to start new.
