Installation of OPSMGR failed

    Question

  • I am trying to install the SCOm 2007 on the windows 2008 box. This box is also my domain controller. Initially when i tried to install the application, it says No SQL database found. When i tried to install the SQl server database it still says that there is no database. But i do not understand that why the installation doesnt asks for any connection to the database and still it fails. Any help is highly appreciated.

  • Hi,

As we know, before installing operation manger, we should first setup operation database and data warehouse for the SCOM installation.

We should logon a Server with SQL installed which you want to make it as your operation database and data warehouse (we also can use two SQL servers, one for operation database, one for data warehouse), and insert SCOM installation media, and open the setup tool, click check prerequisites, with the prerequisite viewer, select operation database, reporting(if you want to make it as your reporting server)and data warehouse. At the right panel you will see the SQL server name and reporting server name.

After passing the check, we should install database on that SQL server for SCOM.

In addition, install SCOM on a DC is not suggested.

  • What is your SQL server database?

    SCOM supports following SQL DB

SQL Server 2005 Standard or SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP1, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP2, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP3, or SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP4, or SQL Server 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2008 SP2, SQL Server 2008 R2, or SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1. For Operations Manager 2007 R2 with CU5 applied, SQL Server 2008 SP3 is supported. For Operations Manager 2007 R2 with Cumulative Update 7 applied, SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 is supported.

Moreover, make sure that the install account has local administrator right and  system administrator on SQL Server.

If you are using SQL 2008 R2, you should install OperationsManager database before you run SCOM 2007 R2 setup program.

  • First, you cannot install SCOM on a Domain Controller.

    2) Why would you install SCOM on a DC?

    3) Why do you want to install SCOM 2007, when 2012 has a lot more features and capability?
