McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention version 8.0 Patch 3 and 4 are Windows 8 and 8.1 compatible

    Question

  • Hello,

I am starting to gather information regarding our company's readiness for Windows 8.1, and I am using Microsoft ACM 6.0 to gather a data base about our applications in our environment.  We have McAfee as our enterprise AV product, and we are currently deploying McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention 8.0 patch 4 to our clients.  ACM reports that McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention 8.0 patch 4 is not compatible with 8.1.  However, I have checked McAfee's support site http://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB70778, and they state Patch 3 supports Windows 8 and Patch 4 supports Widows 8.1.  I have submitted my vote for Compatibility for McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention version 8.0 on Compatibility Center, but I don't see that there are minor revisions that we can vote for.  How can ACM receive votes for one minor revision of a product over another?

  • Hi,

A product compatibility is determined by 3 parts:

    • The product has passed Windows certification requirements and received a logo.
    • The app publisher or device manufacturer stated this products works with Windows 8\8.1\RT\7....
    • Windows 8.1 is designed with compatibility in mind.If an app or device ran on Windows 8, our goal is that it should run on Windows 8.1. During Windows development, we test most of the popular products and we are providing compatibility statements based on this testing. For products we have not tested, compatibility statements for Windows 8.1 are being provided based on the product's compatibility status for Windows 8.

Microsoft will also take user's feedback into account and make updates accordingly, so it might take some time to update a status.

  • Primary resource for compatibility is Microsoft Software Compatibility List

  • Thanks Milos,

I found that McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Version 8 is marked as not compatible for 8.1, but patch 4 makes it compatible.  I actually voted for it as compatible on the site, but the compatibility matrix may not take into account minor revisions.
