Unable to Boot PowerEdge 2850 from CD/DVD after Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Upgrade

    Question

  • Problem: After upgrading Microsoft Server 2008 R2 x64 I am unable to access the server post-BIOS.

    Detailed problem description:
    - Server does not recognize keyboard commands at "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...." prompt.
    - Server boots from HDD and tries to complete upgrade:
    "Applying computer settings..."
    "Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 0%"
    "Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 99%"
    - Here Server displays a brief "press ctrl-alt-del to log on" prompt
-- On ctrl-alt-del a password field is displayed very briefly.
"Please wait for the group policy client"
    "Stopping services..."
    "Restarting..."
