Activate trial version
Hi, everybody.
I downloaded the ForeFront Security for Exchange 2007 trial version, and it says it needs to be activated, otherwise "All actions will revert to Skip: Detect.". I registered for the download, but didn't get any key for activation. How do I fully enable the product for a lab environment?
Thank you very much,

What should happen is that you see the "Activate me" (or whatever it says) notice each time you start the Admin client. It should only ask once, but it will ask on each restart of the client interface. I believe it also states how many days you have left, but I don't have one in front of me at the moment to check. In any case, under the Help > About you should see the license expiration date.
This notice is just a reminder and a "nag" notice. It does not affect the functionality of the software, until you pass the 120 days of course.

Sorry for the slow reply here.
Anyway, you should get 120 days of usage from the trial version. If you look in the Help > About it should tell you when the software will expire. The trial is full featured. To activate it permanently of course you would need to purchase the software and receive the appropriate license key.

Forefront Product ManagerHello, Peter.
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, immediately after installing the trial version, it is warning me that I should activate it, and I just downloaded it. Is this the expected behaviour? It says all actions will revert to Skip: Detect. I need a fully functional product, at least for an evaluation period.
Thank yo very much,
Mario

Thank you very much, Peter.
Now I understand the situation.

- ok
I have the same problem, but it only started happening after reinstalling
When I installed everything was OK - message said Activate now 120 days remaining.
After 4 days, the FSCController service wouldn't start, so I reinstalled, now message is Evaluation has expired - all actions will revert to Skip: Detect, this is about a week after downloading.
Help about doesn't give any information about expiry tim
this is the most crappy piece of code from MS lately..messed up my E2K7 installation, keeping messages in queues, numerous strange errors in eventlog, had the same problem with activation - brand new installation and it says it has expired. Nothing was functioning on the contrary what you say - everything grayed out or buttons not working inside administrator console. Also one of the most arhaic UIs out there.
Uninstall nags sooo much and you have to shutdown almost every d*mn service on the server, would expect him to do this himself..even when you try to shut down ExchangeIS it seems FSController is preventing it and running ExchangeIS is preventing FSController to shut down, so go figure..?
Had finally uninstalled it now and I'm going to think twice before putting it back on.
