Activating an Upgrade to Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP2 from SP1
- I just downloaded the Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP2 from Technet, installed it and the upgrade from SP1 went well. I rebooted the server and now it is asking me for my volume licensing information. The problem is that I have a purchased version of Windows Essential Business Server 2008 (not SBS) and you don't get volume licensing with it. We do have an OPEN account but it only has the Cals we purchased for EBS.
Any Ideas how I can get this working again?

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
According to your description, I would like to suggest you contact local Microsoft sales rep or other software selling place that you bought FSE. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below.

- I called and got a vlk key for the install. Next problem I encountered is when I went to activate it. I entered the new vlk and it then asks me for my license agreement number and expiration date., but my Open license id is 8 characters long and the activation window will only accept 7 characters..... Got on the phone with MS Pro Support and they cannot figure out what to do other than get a new license key which is 7 digits. I said OK, tell me who I need to call to get this done. They cannot figure out where i need to call. Anybody know how I can address this?

- We've had exactly the same problem here. According to the EBS documentation, Forefront Security for Exchange is a trial for 1 year on EBS. BUT, all the settings are locked down , I guess until it is activated. I phoned Microsoft and went from Product Activation to Tech Support to Licensing back to Technical support. They finally said to uninstall SP2 and re-install the original version NOT the SP2 as that thinks it is a full version. This is under C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\FSS\setup.exe (It will require a reboot).
Once installed the settings are STILL locked down and still requires activation.
