When I try to open amazon.com, I always get a connection problem; however, when visiting other sites i have no problem.

Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default"
then
Trusted Sites icon, 'Sites' button... remove http://www.amazon.com from your trusted sites list.... amazon.com uses a sub domain for credential verification, the default IE security settings do not allow navigation across domains of different security ratings.
for consumer help with IE select the Help>Online Support menu from IE and follow the prompts for your windows and IE versions (which you did not mention)
