I had installed internet explorer 9 beta long ago and was not sure if I ever updated it. since the installer wouldn't let me reinstall I decided to remove it and reinstall myself. I went to installed updates and uninstalled windows internet explorer 9 just like the instructions say and restarted.

when the pc started again it showed many errors that I didn't even have time to check, so I tried to restart again and then it came up normally, but when I tried to reinstall, the installer did not finish. when I tried to press the troubleshoot link I got an error message of a broken link.

when I wanted to go and check for solutions online I found out that there was no earlier version of explorer installed, even though they said there should be. luckily, I had waterfox installed. while I was surfing the internet there were many loading problems that were not there before. I thought it was the browser so I tried to install google chrome but it's installer had a problem too (error 3?).

also, windows explorer now opens every folder in a new window for no reason. the option to open the folders on the same page is still selected.

I could really use some help over here...

well, I fixed it: I ran windows update multiple times for many many updates and about 2 hours later the installer finished successfully. the problems with loading sites really were a browser problem. the google chrome install was a different problem, probably from manual location changing (long story). everything is back to normal. oddly, the folder problem was fixed only after installing IE9. I have no idea why it started nor why it ended but it did end so I don't really care that much.
