Answered OWA 2007 and IE8 Display Issue

My stations seem to have a problem where when a user uses OWA (from either a in house system or the BPOS hosted) that around where the name is there is a bug in how it is displayed.

This affects XP, Vista, and 7 clients.  But with IE 7 and below, it didn't have this issue.  I will try to attach a photo of what is happening.

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

I would like to share the documents below:

The old version of OWA used to use the ActiveX control DHTMLEdit, and sometimes there were problems in the past when you installed Office locally because OWA and Office both have a DHTMLEdit control and Office would install it with the status of "on demand".  OWA changed its editor recently in a hotfix, so if you are on the latest service pack of Exchange (front-end and back-end) and have applied all Windows Updates, maybe your problem will go away because OWA is now using a built in behavior instead of an ActiveX control.

Please kindly disable Norton software temporarily to have a try, and try to update your Exchange.

For more information, please post your thread at Exchange Server Forums

    Best Regards

    Magon Liu

Can you elaborate specifically on which hotfix it is?

We also use IE8 with Microsoft's BPOS service and it does the same thing there.

    See:

The issue I am having is not with Exchange 2003, but both an on site Exchange 2007 CAS (Just SP2 Installed) and the Microsoft Online Exchange 2007 CAS (8.3.83.4)

The issue that we find is where it shows the name and you click it to open another mailbox seems messed up.

    See this picture: http://www3.reitzeltechnology.com/Capture.png

It ONLY does this with Internet Exploer 8.  IE 6 & 7 work fine.  Also, on the machines with IE8 they have either Office 2007 or Office 2010 installed.

    Try this five-step fix:  http://mustech.net/2007/02/20/windows-vista-webmail-owa-fix-for-internet-explorer-7-five-step-fix

NOTE: Ignore the reference to IE7 & Vista; in fact, ignore EVERYTHING ELSE on that page except the five-step fix. Do NOT click on ANY of the adverts, etc., on that page either.

I contacted Microsoft Online Support and they have informed me this is the behavior in IE8 and there is nothing that can be done to fix it.
