Can't Uninstall IE9 Beta
-
Sunday, February 27, 2011 4:44 AMI've been running IE9 Beta for a few months. Windows Update showed the IE9 RC was available so I tried to install it multiple times. I Kept getting an error "IE did not finish installing." Decided to uninstall the Beta. I found it in Programs and Features under Installed Updates but when I tried to uninstall it gives an error "An error occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled." After all of this IE9 Beta still works. Any ideas on how I get rid of the Beta or upgrade to the RC?

• How do I uninstall Internet Explorer 9 Beta/Release Candidate?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/help/ie-9/how-do-i-install-or-uninstall-internet-explorer-9Note: One uninstalls Windows Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate via Installed Updates, not Programs and Features. Uninstalling IE9 RC will automatically restore the previous IE version (i.e., IE7 or IE8).

After I had given up hope, and decided to reinstall Windows 7, I tried this, and I can now use IE8 (and WMP 12) again:
sfc /scannow
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
but though it runs IE8, it still says IE9 is installed, and it won't uninstall.
--------------
My problems were:
IE9 Beta claimed to have installed correctly but when started, flashed a window and immediately closed.
It would not uninstall. Reinstallations would not work.
No hacks (below) worked.
--------------
I tried: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
Then I tried: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasecurity/thread/69005962-ff03-475d-81c3-0e242bc23ae6/
which did not work, since there was no IE9-Win7.msu file
1. Click Start
2. Type cmd then press enter
3. Drag and Drop IE9 setup package to cmd window
4. Type at the end of path /X:C:\IE9\ and press enter. (like:C:\IE9-Windows7-x86-enu.exe /X:C:\IE9\ )
5. Type C:\IE9\IE9-Win7.MSU /UNINSTALL and press enter
