Let me start with a big Thank You to everyone who has provided feedback for FIM 2010 RC1.

Based on the feedback we have released an Update 1 to RC1. This update includes the received feedback so far.

This update will be available through Microsoft Update shortly, but if you want a sneak-peek, the update 1 is available at Connect (here).

If you have feedback on RC1 or RC1 Update 1, please provide the feedback through Connect Feedback.

Thank you all for evaluating FIM 2010!

    /Andreas Kjellman

We found an issue very late and it wasn't in the first release notes. The problem below will be surfaced during the database upgrade since the utility is trying to start the FIM Service with an invalid certificate. This is the text I just added to the document:

    Known Issues

Service & Portal Update Fails If You Used a Custom Certificate to Install RC1

If, during RC1 installation, you used a custom certificate rather than letting the FIM service installer supply a self-issued certificate, the Service and Portal update will fail. An event log entry will say that the FIM Service cannot start due to a certificate error.

    To work around this issue:

    1.   Back up the FIM Service database.

    2.   Start regedit and navigate to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FimService. Find the value for “CertificateThumbprint” and save it for later use.

    3.   Uninstall the FIM Service and Portal.

    4.   Re-install the RC1 version of the FIM Service and Portal, with the options “Re-use existing database” and “Use self-issued certificate.” This will let the FIM Service installer create the certificate.

    5.   Install FIM 2010 RC1 Update 1.

    6.   After installation is complete, start regedit and navigate to the registry key \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FimService. Change the value of “CertificateThumbprint” to the value you previously saved.

    7.   Re-start the FIM Service.

Do not forget to reboot between step 3 and step 4 listed above. Otherwise the installation will fail as the servcie cannot be installed.

    Best regards, Christian
