I have a requirement for automation of FIM synchronization service back-up. I need to back-up the FIM synchronization server configuration, back-up MAnagement agents and FIM synchronization database which is stored locally.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Steve-

You can use the SQL Agent to schedule backups of the FIM Sync database. That should realistically be enough - FIM's config is stored in the database. If you still want to export the config, there is a command line tool in the FIM install folder called svrexport.exe that you can use.

    Hi Steve,

As brian said, Backup of FIM Synchronization Service database is enought to restore Metaverse and server configuration (including Management Agents) - just make sure that you have the encryption key in case of database restore.

If you still want to export server configuration you can run from command line the "svrexport.exe" command located in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\Bin" folder (this command include all FIM Synchronization server components and configuration).

If you want to export specific Management Agents you can use  "maexport.exe" located in the same folder as mentioned above
