QuestionChanging an existing Configuration

I noticed when I went to change a file import MA by adding an attribute after some testing that the attribute flow definition in Synchro. Services Manager is now blank.  Is that a result of the processing by the stuff defined in the portal?  If you want to make a change, do you have to delete your MAs and the various pieces defined in the portal and recreate them?

    Thanks

AFAIK the portal shouldn't typically remove the attribute flows defined in the sync service manager.
Sync Rules may add attribute flows, but ?shouldn't? remove the existing manually set ones.

I like to export the MA before I test it or change it, so if weird things happen I can import it back.

You can typically change attribute flows in the MA without needing to recreate MPRs etc in the portal.
However if you delete and recreate an MA, the MPRs you have will no longer be linked to it.

I think I am failing to understand the steps.  Can you please list your steps in the following fashion?  Is this a correct description of the steps you are taking?

    1. Configure file MA with attribute flows in identity manager
    2. Use synchronization engine to flow data from CS to MV for that file MA
    3. Add attribute to CS schema for file MA
    4. Add attribute flows for new attributes
    5. Synchronize data to MV
    6. View attribute flows in identity manager - attribute flows added in step 4 are blank
