FIM 2010 R2 and Sharepoint 2010

Hi,
I recall reading that FIM 2010 R2 registration and reset websites run directly on top of IIS (they are their own sites) and don't use SharePoint - unlike the actual FIM admin portal which uses either WSS or 2010 Foundation. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/ilm2/thread/3915dd3a-4497-4a9c-a9dd-3dfddf84def9)
So did I hear in error somewhere that FIM 2010 R2 can be integrated into an existing Sharepoint 2010 farm?
Please could someone clarify this.
Thank you,
SK

I have never heard of anyone trying to install FIM on an existing Sharepoint 2010 farm and I doubt that it is feasible, let alone supported.

Two things
1) I believe you can create a farm with SPF 2010 that you can run FIM on, though you would not be able to install it into an existing SharePoint Farm - not sure about an existing SharePoint Foundation 2010 farm.2 In my FIM on SPF 2013 guide, I mention there are reasons you should not use SharePoint Foundation 2013 with FIM.
Spencer Harbar has some details in his guide about setting up SPF2013 in a SharePoint Farm.. I imagine details are similar for SPF 2010.
