FIM R2 Portal/Service Installation Error

Hi, I'm upgrading from FIM 2010 Update 2 to R2 [in Dev]. When i installed the Portal and Services, it went well initially and in the middle of the installation, it started throwing the below error. I looked at the location of the R2 installation folder, and can find the specified file. Also, the user account running the installation has admin rights on the machine and has full rights on the installation folder. i have no choice except aborting the installation. but it didn't roll back installation, instead it removed existing portal and services etc. so now i have to setup/configure FIM 2010 Update 2 again to start my R2 upgrade because my FIMService DB is FIM 2010 update 2.
Please advise any fix for this error.

I've never seen this error before, but one suggestion that comes to mind is to either turn off UAC during installation or run a command prompt "as Administrator" and run "msiexec /i pathtothemsipackagehere" from there. That's probably not your problem, but it can avoid some headaches. Using verbose logging can also be enabled at the command line.
