    originally it was a upgrade from home basic to ultimate and i didnt create a backup and system crashed and i had to perform a clean installation with my upgrade dvd and it says this disc wasnt meant for a clean installtion and i have 30 days to activate windows

    You cannot activate an Upgrade Windows Vista license if you did not have a qualifying Windows operating system installed.  You will need to reinstall your original Windows Vista Home Basic operating system, then upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate.  If you do not have your original installation disc, please see: How to replace missing Microsoft software
