    Hi there.

    I recently was given a new (used) computer for Christmas, and a friend gave me an unused code for Windows 7 (Yes, I'm sure it was unused). Windows 7 Ultimate was downloaded, and after procrastinating for a bit, I tried to activate it. I've been given this message:

     

    "The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows 7.

    You must either run Windows 7 Setup or enter a Windows 7 Ultiamte Product Key."

     

    As there's only 2 more days left for me to register, I'm getting a little panicked. What have I done wrong? I know the key is legit, and I'm not sure what to do. Please help!

    Hi, this article should help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

    Assuming the product (Win7 Ultimate) matches the product key you have, telephone activation may be necessary.
    If the product key does not match the product installed, then the message you are getting is accurate, and expected.
