已答复 Adding Licenses on KMS

    Hi, folks
We bulit a KMS server for Windows 2008 & Windows 2008 R2, and Windows 2008/R2 servers activation is fine.

Recently, we purchased more Windows 2008/R2 licenses from Microsoft, how can we add these new licences to existing KMS server? I researched KMS-related documents, unforturnately, we didn't find guides for "adding license".

NOTE: Microsoft/Vendor  gave us difference KMS key every time

For example, we bought 20 server licenses before(one KMS key),  we buy 20 licenses again(another KMS key), now, we have two KMS keys, we hope one KMS server can host both licenses (totally 40).

Is there a way for our goal? We don't want to setup two KMS server, for long-terms, we don't want to setup three..four...five...KMS servers.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting here.

Only one KMS key can be added to one KMS host. If you want to use the two keys, you need to build another KMS host.

    Thanks. Hope this helps.

I think this is really a somewhat "stupid" design.  Say, we MUST buy all windows licenses from Microsoft at one-time? If we can't do that, so that we MUST setup a large number of KMS servers.

I really hate a such design.

    Hello Liuxiang Chen,
This is on the FAQ page for Product activation, so you can use just one key for all your machines.
The KMS host key doesn't limit the activations. so you can just use your existing KMS host machine.
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/product-activation-faq.aspx

Although they may choose to do so, customers do not have to use keys provided under a specific Licensing ID (agreement, enrollment, affiliate, or license) for use only with the licenses specified under that Licensing ID. Customers have this flexibility so they can centrally manage their deployment/image. They can choose to use keys specific to agreements/licenses, or one set of keys for all.

It seems that we have no way to add licenese to a existing KMS. Anyway, thanks to your information.

    Hello Liuxiang,
    What do you mean?
KMS does not limit the number of machines that activate, the FAQ post states you can use the same key to cover multiple agreements and to activate those machines with the single Key.
You don't have to add any licenses, since there is not limit in KMS.
