    If you don’t have the Key, you don’t have a license.
    If you don’t have a license, then you can’t use Vista (or any other MS Operating System).
     
     
    Now – How did you get Vista?
    If it was pre-installed on your machine you DO (or at least *should*) have a Key – look for a sticker on the case or in the battery compartment.
     
    If you downloaded Vista, and installed it without entering a Key, then you are not licensed to use it beyond the 30-day activation grace period without purchasing a license.
     
    MS no longer sells Vista.
    You should consider purchasing a Full Retail license for Windows 7, which is still in production.

    The retail Windows Vista product key can be found on the Product Key Label.
