Saturday, November 22, 2008 2:51 AMIn Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, you can stop the NTDS service and then use the ntdsutil tool to perform maintenance. Earlier versions do not support this. However, anytime you stop the NTDS service (NET STOP NTDS), the domain controller will not be able to do its normal work of authenticating clients. After you are done with the maintenance, then you will have to start the NTDS service (NET START NDTS).

What maintenance procedures do you recommend? and How frequently should they be performed?
