You can't find it as a running application, because it's not an app - it's a Windows service.
Preferred way to shut it down:
start > run > services.msc  Scroll down to the bottom, and look for Windows Media Center Status Aggregator.  Right-click > stop.
Run your installer, and then start the service.
Dirty-but-effective way:  in Task Manager, click the Processes tab.  Click 'image name' to sort by name (and to keep it from rearranging itself constantly), and look for 'ehmsas.exe'  If you don't see it, click 'show processes from all users.'  Find the process, select it, and click 'end process' > OK.

Wrong.  There's no such service as Media Center Status Aggregator in all the list of services on Vista Ultimate X64.  Unable to stop and disable it if it doesn't show  there.

    Hi, GearWorld.
    (btw, holy thread dredge!)

Did you look in Task Manager (ticking the 'show processes from all users' box) for ehmsas.exe?  You can kill it from there, too.....

To be blunt, I can't see how it can so blatantly be wrong, seeing as:
    - I checked that against a Vista system when I posted that (in 2008, this laptop was running Vista....)
    - the OP replied with "thanks!  that did it!"

    ((shrugs))

(oh, how I wish - again - that these forums had an auto-lock feature.....)

You say wrong? First off, nobody even said Vista Ultimate X64. Sure it may not be on vista ultimate but i'm running vista home premium X64 and i have it running (idk why).
