AnswerATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner; Media Center Cannot Update Security Protocols

I have an ATI TV Wonder Digitial Cable Tuner and it has been installed and everything by Bright House (subsidiary of Time Warner) and my Media Center can see it, although when I go to "Activate Digital Cable" Vista attempts to connect to the internet to download new security protocols however it doesn't even appear to try, it simply fails with a message that states that it was unable to download the new security protocols, premium content will not be available.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Chris

    Hello Chris,

    Thanks for your post!

Based on my research, ATI TV Wonder series includes many product models. Please let me know the model you are currently using.

Besides, the exact error message is also important for further troubleshooting.

As a regular step to troubleshoot similar issues, please update the drivers for your computer as well as the tuner.

Thanks! I’m happy to be of further assistance.

    Lionel,

Thanks for your reply, I don't have the exact model number on hand, but it is the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner (http://ati.amd.com/products/tvwonderdigital/index.html)  The error message reads:

"Unable to update security components.  You will not be able to view or record premium content until the update is successful"  And then I have the option to retry or cancel.  Thanks!

    Hello,

    Thanks for your feedback!

For the security component of the error message, please refer to Windows Media Center for Windows Vista Privacy Statement, Digital Tuner with CableCARD section:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/evaluation/privacy/mcevistaprivacy.mspx

Please use Windows Update to keep your system updated. And then try the security component upgrade viathe following page:

    http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

Restart your computer, and check the issue again.

Hope it helps! If the problem still persists, please post to let me know, thanks!

I am having the exact same issue, when I go to the site to update my DRM, the upgrade button is greyed out?

I have read the mcevistaprivacy document and am in full compliance.

I have Vista SP1, fully patched and the same hardware as above with updated firmware. quad proc, 8GB RAM, SATA on a Home entertainment machine.

Please help, I have been searching and posting for days and no one has the answer!

    Thanks

    Phil,

Did you ever get this problem fixed because I am having the same problem?

    Hi Lionel,

I'm having this same issue and can't get past this. I've updated my security component via http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp, but still can't get past the "Digital Tuner Setup" screen to activate my digital tuners.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    James

Has anyone figured this out yet?  I have followed all the "suggested" actions, reset DRM with the drmlicense.one.microsoft link, it does it, but Media Center still gets the "security component" error.  Turned off, removed all anti-virus, firewall software.  NOTHING has helped.  Should we just give up?
