I have an XP system running IE7 and I would like to migrate and merge the saved password cache from that computer to my Vista system running IE8.

Can someone please explain how to do that?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Based on my research, I perform some tests on our test machines. Finally, I get a solution to this kind of requirements. You can take the following steps.

    1. Transfer cookies and favorites from one computer to another one.

    2. Export related passwords saved registries.

    1) Press WIN + R to open Run box, and type: regedit.

    2) Separately Locate to the passwords saved registries, and click File, then click Export.

On Internet Explorer AutoComplete web form information is stored in the Registry in the following hive locations:

    Encrypted Usernames and Passwords:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2

    Web addresses:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MicrosoftProtected Storage System Provider\

    Cryptographic symmetric keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Protected Storage System Provider\Data\\

    3. Copy these exported reg files to another computer.

    4. Import these reg files to passwords saved registries.

    5. Restart the computer and see if it works.

Meanwhile, I also found there are some third-party software that can complete this behavior. For example, IE Password Manager. You can do a research on Internet.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.

As I know, Internet Explorer has a simple Import/Export Wizard which can be used to export Cookies and Favorites. To transfer these cache data from Internet Explorer 7 to Internet Explorer 8, please take the following steps.

    1.     Click Files in Internet Explorer 7, and click Import and Export.

    2.     Click Export Cookies and click Next.

    3.     Click Browse to save cookies.txt in external disk.

    4.     Repeat the above steps to export Favorites and Feeds.

    5.     Switch to Windows Vista, and open Internet Explorer 8.

    6.     Click Files in Internet Explorer 8, and click Import and Export.

    7.     Click Import Cookies and click Next.

    8.     Click Browse to obtain cookies.txt in external disk.

    9.     Repeat step 6 to step 8 to import Favorites and Feeds.

I found the above mentioned information regarding transfering passwords and forms, however when I save the hive and import it on the new PC it still doesn't work? E.g. when I go to www.torncity.com and double click on the username nothing shows up, unlike on my old PC.

    Please advice...
