Ping works one way but not the other

I have a small LAN (just one subnet) with all PCs running Windows XP Pro. When I use Ping on computer A it can ping itself successfully and also ping computer B successfully. When I use Ping on computer B it can ping itself successfully but when it pings computer A I get "request timed out". How can everything be OK in one direction but not the other?
When I used Ping on a third computer (call it C) on the same subnet it can ping itself successfully but when it pings computer A I get "request timed out"... i.e. computer C works just like computer B. Computer A can "see" computers B and C but neither computer B or C can "see" computer A. What can cause this problem.

Hello cfhale,
Please understand that this forum mainly focuses on Windows Vista technical issues. If you need further assistance, I suggest you post your question to the Windows XP Newsgroup.
Regarding your issue, a "request timed out" message is usually caused by an improperly configured firewall.

Hello Eric,
Thanks for your tip. I will check the firewall's configuration. I signed up at the XP Newsgroup and found some helpful information there too.
