Open the file with Adobe Reader, and look at the topmost toolbar. If the print icon is un-usable, then the file is more than likely secured from printing.You may be able to get it to print via FoxIt reader. (I am assuming your HP printer is setup ok and it has no issues.)

What is the detailed error or message received when trying to print for the PDF files?
