Vista SP2 introduces "a registry key that enables modification of the maximum number of open TCP connections to increase application compatibility"

Where does one find this registry key?

    Anybody?

Seems strange to advertise a feature that nobody knows how to turn on or test...

     Proposed Answer

In Sp2, we changed the behavior of maximum number of half-open TCP connections.

    RTM/Sp1:

At any given time, maximum of 10 half open TCP connections were supported.

    Sp2:

    This limit is removed.

So, hopefully, we should not see anymore the hideous Event ID 4226?
    Thanks!

No but it looks like we got Event ID 4228 instead which aparently is more or less the same... so where is that registry key?

    Yikes?  4228?!

    And what about Win7?

Is MS only lifting the restriction from Vista because soon only 2 or 3 people will be using it?

    Strange. I don't have any 4228...

This article has just appeared with the registry key: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969710

Note however that the default behavior has changed: by default the limit of 10 is removed under SP2. The registry puts the limit back and reverts you to the behavior under SP1.

Smart decision. So now we await news on Win7. In RC, at least, TCP-Z still seems to think that the limitation exists, so it appears not to be implemented in Win7 yet. I don't have Vista SP2 to be able to run TCP-Z there to determine if it's a reliable indicator.

SP2 For vista and server 2008 are available now for download. I have had the service pack beta installed now for some time and it works great. no need for windows 7 for fix.

    good luck
