I came to this forum looking for answers of how to get a computer back after installing SP1 on my friends computer and ended up having to spend hours trying to figure it out. Recovery disk wont help first off so don't waist your money. Good news is you dont have to wipe your system or re-install your OS. the repair utility wont work either ...nor restore program. ...........shut down computer and turn back on. a blue screen will come up for a sec and it will tell you which F key to press to get into set up... I just went to the menu in there and selected restore defaults and then restarted and Windows worked again.............now I'm going to try installing SP2 first since I read in here that it has the needed repairs to install SP1 and I need to install SP1 before I can install Norton Security software. I hope this works but if I crash again, I now know that I just need to restore defaults in setup and I can at least get it back up to work on it! I hope this helps so folks don't go loosing everything on their computer and re-installing Vista OS....

I'm so glad my OS is Windows 7...and I don't understand why Microsoft hasn't fixed that problem with SP1 that causes this... they could at least put a warning out! I'm not a computer tech or anything but it took me 10hrs of trying everything I could and reading every forum searching for the answer...the answers I found were hard for the layman computer user to understand or they were drastic or expensive!
